"Your filing status is based on your status as of December 31of that filing year. So for tax year 2011, your status is based on your status as of Dec.31, 2011, and not today. If you got married in January, both you and your spouse will file as single filers. If you got married in December, you can't opt to file as a single filer (you can pick married filing separately or married filing jointly."

Thank you!

You'll have to file married. The status is determined on the last day of the year, and in your case, you were married.

Hello Saylin,

My wife decides to add my full name to her passport. Therefore, a new passport was issued after I sent the I-130 package. Since NVC requires a copy of beneficiary’s unexpired passport in the IV package, do I have to explain why the passport is different in the I-130 package? I am going to send the IV package for her.

Only my name was added and the passport number is now different, everything else remains the same.

Sincerely,

Gill

"Immigrant visa applicants should not make any final travel arrangements, dispose of property, or give up jobs until and unless visas are issued. Some visa applications require further administrative processing, which takes additional time after the visa applicant's interview by a consular officer. An immigrant visa is generally valid for six months from the issuance date."

This Visa journey is a long process which really needs lots of patience and prayers. Its very stressful waiting and counting days and more stressful when you are in the middle of something else wherein your employer is asking for all requirements needed to renew work permit which is due on March and here I am hoping to hear from NVC saying "Case Complete". I followed that rule aboved not to give up job. My employer doesnt know about this visa journey of mine. I know its so unfair on their part to be left hanging. But I have to make sure I will have visa on Hand before telling them that Im leaving. Im still providing them my work permit requirements. I just pray it wont be approve immediatly because it will be more unfair on them paying $1000, then I leave.

I hope and pray my fairy God mother will bring me good news soon. I know HE always answer prayers in HIS TIME.

No need for an explanation, but you can include one if you wish in the cover letter.

I'm sorry, I know there are all those links on the first two posts, but we are getting SO confused about what we are supposed to do now. We just got our case number and IIN number today, and my husband (USC) gave over his email address.

Do I still have to send an email confirming he's my choice of agent? And am I able to do electronic processing as i'm from the UK? If so, is this for the AOS forms, or the other bit? Or both?

I'm sorry, i'm feeling very overwhelmed...

No, the DS-3032 is no longer used (email or paper form). To select an agent, the online DS-261 is used. This should be available in the forms portal within a few business days.

Nope, the UK is not one of the eligible countries for EP. You can only snail mail the two packages.

Just re-read the first two posts a couple of times, and you'll soon understand the process. If it would help, try writing down the steps YOU need to take. I did this on Post-It notes and stuck them on my wall above my computer. Helped greatly :) Or, print out the guides/posts and highlight the stuff that pertains to you. I did this as well.
