Infopass Appt. GC over one year

Hey all Happy New Year,

We just got notification today that Renewal EAD/AP was approved today, but still no word on GC and we filed one year ago on 12/27/12. We scheduled Infopass appointment for Monday, has anyone else done an infopass appointment for their GC?

I searched and there is nothing recent. Any pointers, specific questions to ask? Their reason for taking so long is background checks not returned yet. I called FBI number from an old post, and they informed me that FBI checks were completed 12 hours after Biometrics appointment. Local office has had file since July.

FBI fingerprint checks may have been completed the same day, but name checks can take weeks, and, sometimes (rarely) months or years. That might be the hold-up, or it could be something else. Hopefully they can tell you at the Infopass.

questions to ask:

1. the adjudicator that was assigned to my casefile, do they still work in the building?

2. is the adjudicator assigned to my casefile on maternity leave?

3. is the adjudicator assigned to my casefile still an adjudicator ?

4. per yer internal records, what is the last date an adjudicator touched my casefile ?

5. per yer internal records, what action items are you still waiting on?

6. per the adjudicator's checklist, what items are missing from the casefile ?

7. what is the place in queue, for my casefile to be adjudicated?

8. what date do you expect my casefile to be adjudicated? if you can't give me a date, what things must occur prior for adjudication to occur ?

That's about all I can think of, at the moment.

Bonus points for :

1. printing this out, taking it with you to the infopass appointment

2. updating your profile to show which local office is 'yours'.

No, EAD and AP can be renewed as many times as needed for free. USCIS recommends you file for their renewals 120 days before your present documents will expire.

Oh okay that's good to know. I know sometimes some of the K-1 visa applicant wish they would have went the spouse route so that they could avoid all this renewal and waiting for their green card. I hope that you get it soon a year seems to be a long time to wait.

My wife is still waiting for her temporary GC. I am the petitioner for her under K1 visa. We are about to renew her both her employment authorization and travel authorization since they expire in May '14.

According to the people we spoke with on the phone at USCIS, the fee is $360 for the I-131 and $380 for the I-765, even as a renewal.

They are wrong:

Talking on the phone with USCIS tier 1 is a waste of your time. You're talking to contractors, not immigration officers, and they know as much about immigration law and procedures as does my mailman. If I had a dollar for the number of times I had seen someone post advice they were given by tier 1 that was clearly wrong then I would have been able to retire before I was born.

According to the people we spoke with on the phone at USCIS, the fee is $360 for the I-131 and $380 for the I-765, even as a renewal.

They are wrong. EAD and AP can be renewed as often as needed for free as long as the GC has not been approved. Just send a copy of your AOS I-797C NOA along.

Not true, I sent in copy of NOA1 from I-485, and copy of the page that came with the initial EAD/AP along with everything required for both applications, no RFE and renewal was completed in 45 days.

No, Infopass was not useful, I think that she did not know what she was talking about. We are still holding due to background checks. Person told me that the 6 months at NBC do not count with them, so they consider to only having the file 5 months, so they are not outside of normal processing time. Also, she said the background checks are being done internally, so it varies who does the checks. Also, she said if we did not receive a waiver letter that we will get an interview. I told her waiver letters did not begin until March 2013, and we applied before then. She did not know. Her answers to questions were vague, or I don't know.
