Does anyone know if spouse is coming on CR-1, what needs to be done after the spouse comes to the United States? How do you apply for Permanent Resident card, SSN, etc?

For CR1 and other immigrant visa holder,there's no need to apply for the Green Card . But,there's a $165 fee for Permanent Resident Card processing. You can pay it before you leave or after POE.

This is the beauty of the CR1, I salute an astute choice.

Spouse doesn't need to apply for anything really other than a state ID card as all processing has been done at the embassy.

Spouse will receive a stamp in the passport next to the visa and that serves as a temporary green card which completely valid and represents permission to reside and work in the USA from day one. You will need to pay the $165 fee, I recommend to do that in the US after the dust settles so that you can get the official green card.

The SSN, if you requested to have one generated in the immigration forms, should arrive shortly, if not you can go down to the SSN office and request it, we did.

They'll give you a leaflet at the embassy with instructions. You need your A number and I think another number from the visa.

I'll see if I can get the payment url. It's a convoluted website, I think designed by the same folks who designed the Obamacare website.

I think at least a year, I'll have to check Madams passport.

But in reality you should take care of it right away. Who knows what policy change may occur.
