How do celebrities just take up NY residences or take up residence in London? If you can prove you have enough money, can you just move somewhere?

Just curious. I can't find anything online.

Famous Artists, Musicians, Models and the like who want to work over here can get H-1B. I personally know a "rock star" who moved here on an H-1B, although he's since got a Green Card.

You can also get a visa to live here if you're going to invest a significant amount of money into the USA.

Doc, isn't there a visa category besides the H1 for entertainers?

Yes, a P-1 visa. But that's not if the person wants to live in the USA, just if they want to come here to perform (and then leave).

O-1 visa also can cover entertainers I believe as well. EDIT: Yes, O-1 can be for "Artists and entertainers of extraordinary ability affiliated with motion picture or television industry".
