Hi everyone.

I finally started filling all the adjustment of status forms with my wife. I am the intending immigrant and she is the US Citizen. The forms we are filling are: i-130, i-485, i-864 and g-325. Below are questions I have and I will really appreciate it if anyone helps me or gives me an input on what to do OR if I am doing the right thing.

1. Regarding Forms i-130 and g-325A, (Per the USCIS instructions for i-130 and from what I read online) if a question was not applicable or the answer was none, I either filled in N/A or NONE instead of Leaving a blank space but with Forms i-485 and i-864, (per the USCIS instructions for i-485 and i-864 which indicated that where a question was not applicable or an answer was none, a blank space should be left) I therefore left blank spaces for not applicable fields or to questions where answers were none. Is this right?

2. When filling out Form i-485 on the computer, the field for i-94 number for question 1 kept reformatting to space out the last two numbers (so for example: 123456789 would become 1234567 89). Is this normal and should I leave it that way or I should use my hand to fill in that answer?

3. On my original birth certificate, I have a middle name but I never used it and I still never use it and it is not on any official documents of mine (passports, school certificates etc). A recent certified copy of my birth record shows my current legal name WITHOUT the middle name and in the USCIS forms, I filled out just a First Name and Last Name with NONE in the middle name space and just put the middle name I never use in the OTHER NAMES space. I intend attaching an extra sheet to explain to USCIS the situation regarding my name. Is that right? or should I just take it completely off the forms and just explain that even though I have the middle name on my original birth certificate, I no longer use it and show the updated certified copy of my birth record as proof (since it has only my first and last names)?

I believe if I have answers to these 3 questions, I should be ready to submit. Thank you all for your good work and help. I really appreciate it. Thanks!

1. I can only say what I did (I just recently submitted our AOS). I used "none" when the answer was none, and only used n/a when it was trully n/a. Reading the experiences of others, I can definitely tell you not to use "n/a" too liberally. Again, only put n/a if it is truly n/a. Finally, while I did write "none" a lot because you shouldn't leave most things blank, I didn't go crazy about it. For example, if it asked to list dependents I wrote "none" in the first line, then left the rest blank. Again, that is only what I did, and I just submitted our AOS so we'll see if there is a problem.

2. Leave it like that, it autocorrects to the correct format. I admit it looks weird, but it is correct. My wife's entry I-94 had it in the same strange format.

3. I haven't read about this before, but I've read enough about the process in general to say what you did sounds correct. For your official name, omit the middle name. For other names used, include your full name with the middle name (ex: FIRST MIDDLE LAST). Finally, attach a letter explaining the situation. In all probability the person handling your case won't care anyway, but if they do care, then doing these steps takes care of any potential questions.

Also, yell at your parents for giving you a middle name then not even using it :)

Good luck!
