Country star Toby Keith sparks outrage after banning GUNS from his new Virginia restaurant

Personally I don't think a responsible gun owner would consider taking a gun to a restaurant with or without a sign being on the door, but that's not really the point of the sign is it?

What are Virginia's concealed carry laws? I have no idea.

Apparently, you are not allowed to conceal carry into a restaurant but have to have your gun clearly visible. So, sneaking it in under the radar would run afoul of the law. As would bringing the gun into the establishment despite the owner's direction not to do so. It's private property you're entering and the rules that the owner sets apply. So one way or the other, it would be breaking the law to carry a gun into that restaurant.

Virginia gun laws allow citizens to bring firearms into bars and restaurants as long as they are clearly visible, but individual owners are free to opt out, which is what Keith chose to do, the station MyFoxDC reported.

It looks like it is legal to carry concealed in bars and restaurants as long as you don't consume alcohol. It is a class 2 misdemeanor. http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_ResidentConcealed.shtm

Prohibited Conduct and Where Unlawful to Carry - Section 18.2-308.012

Any person permitted to carry a concealed handgun who is under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while carrying such handgun in a public place is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. Conviction of any of the following offenses shall be prima facie evidence, subject to rebuttal, that the person is "under the influence" for purposes of this section: manslaughter in violation of Section 18.2-36.1, maiming in violation of Section 18.2-51.4, driving while intoxicated in violation of Section 18.2-266, public intoxication in violation of Section 18.2-388, or driving while intoxicated in violation of Section 46.2-341.24.

No person who carries a concealed handgun onto the premises of any restaurant or club as defined in Section 4.1-100 for which a license to sell and serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption has been granted by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board under Title 4.1 of the Code of Virginia; may consume an alcoholic beverage while on the premises. A person who carries a concealed handgun onto the premises of such a restaurant or club and consumes alcoholic beverages is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. However, nothing in this subsection shall apply to a federal, state, or local law-enforcement officer.

Isn't it odd that this does not apply to federal, state or local law enforcement officers? They can drink while carrying while the general population cannot.

And there you would be wrong, and might wanna stay out of Alaska. The majority of establishments allow concealed carry, though there are a few who have signs prohibiting it. Furthermore, though AK has a concealed carry permit, you are not required to get one; ANYONE can carry concealed, unless prohibited by former convictions.

Lots of responsible gun owners go into restaurants, stores, car dealerships, etc. every day.

Say what you really mean... There is no such thing as a responsible gun owner,,,,,,,.As for me I have NO fear of sitting next to a responsible gun owner anywhere any time. It is the thug that a liberal judge let out of prison with little time served for a serious crime that I worry about. That and the occasional polar bear hunter.

If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig

Florida currently has more concealed-carry permit holders than any other state, with 1,269,021 issued as of May 14, 2014

I am sure a lot of gun owners do all sorts of every day things. All the responsible sane ones leave their guns at home.

I really said what I really mean. Responsible gun owners do not see guns as a substitute for common sense and therefore they don't need to carry them around on every occasion. Only people who are completely neurotic think that it's not safe to go out to a restaurant to eat a meal without a gun. Those people shouldn't have one. I spelled it out again for you. Want to try again?

I will spell it out for you ,,, NO need to fear a responsible gun owner... Just the paranoia of a liberal mind that is to be feared.

It's paranoia that drives people to run around armed. I'm not paranoid and thus I don't feel the need to take a gun with me when I take a dump.

I think you better let the true paranoids wallow in their blissful ignorance lest they do awake to the fact they need to carry a gun to feel empowered. IMHO guns have become replacements for very large cars.... Overcompensation, of sorts...

I don't know if it's true or not. I was guessing that what you have in your car is none of their business. And realistically it would probably be quite easy to circumvent Toby Keith's ban too.

That prob varies from state to state somewhat. In ky you're not allowed to have guns in a bar. Or is it that you're not allowed not to have guns? One of them.

I would agree with this somewhat. Then I remember the former constable that shot a bailiff in a fit of road rage. Up to that point they were probably responsible somewhat but they lost their wits and one of them died.

Now wait a moment - has Virginia become a place full of bars where the fellas get drunk and shoot up the bars ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Country star, actor and restaurateur Toby Keith sparked a controversy after banning guns from his newly opened eatery in Virginia.

The 52-year-old Oklahoma native held a grand opening last week for his newest venture, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in the DC suburb of Woodbridge.

But many of the singer's fans who turned up for the event were shocked to discover a sign in the window that announced:' NO GUNS PERMITTED.'

How absolutely fabulous, a private citizen chooses not to allow guns in his restaurant and a bunch of especially responsible gun owners get upset. Only in the USofA good.gif

Outrage. Hardly. LOL

I don't fear responsible gun owners. As to paranoia, I'll leave that to the idiot that thinks going to a restaurant is a reasonable place to take weaponry.
