Country star, actor and restaurateur Toby Keith sparked a controversy after banning guns from his newly opened eatery in Virginia.

The 52-year-old Oklahoma native held a grand opening last week for his newest venture, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in the DC suburb of Woodbridge.

But many of the singer's fans who turned up for the event were shocked to discover a sign in the window that announced:' NO GUNS PERMITTED.'

How absolutely fabulous, a private citizen chooses not to allow guns in his restaurant and a bunch of especially responsible gun owners get upset. Only in the USofA good.gif

So what? He's not a politician, he's a singer. Why should his songs have any relevance beyond being songs? The idea that everyone who is famous has a place in politics and that everything they do should be justifiable in political terms is mind numbingly stupid.

This comment (from the OP source) sums it up nicely:

Ron Natalie wrote: 'Don't let the wackos get you down. The Constitution applies to the government not a private property owner. Responsible firearms owners know drinking and loaded weapons do NOT mix.'

And it seems that the restaurant is doing just fine without the wackos (also from the source in the OP).

Even though many fans called for a boycott of Keith's restaurant over his gun ban, the hotspot had no shortage of customers at lunchtime Thursday, when people reportedly had to wait 20 minutes in line to get in.

Knowing that the wackos are staying away from the place, I might just drop in next time I'm in the neighborhood. smile.png

Sure but there are people out there that profess that they can't take a dump without their gun. How would they be expected to eat without it?

They can stay home or go to a more gun friendly eatery. That's the beauty of America, choice.

Responsible gun owners wouldn't be whining. They would either comply or go elsewhere. McDonald's lets you pack heat in the drive thru line.

Yet one more reason not to go to that particular fast food outlet.

I don't know if it's true or not. I was guessing that what you have in your car is none of their business. And realistically it would probably be quite easy to circumvent Toby Keith's ban too.

Easy yes, but one has to break the law to do it. smile.png

Virginia gun laws allow citizens to bring firearms into bars and restaurants as long as they are clearly visible,...

You do not think he should have the right to decide if people carry guns in his establishment or not? As to the driver thru issue, I really don't care enough about it.

I think he has the right to ban guns from his restaurant and a responsible gun owner would comply. I simply stated that it would be quite simple to carry concealed and no one would be the wiser. Unless he has a metal detector that the patrons must pass through,
