Although I understand your reasoning, Phred, and I won't argue against your right to use it -- I do think you may be in for a rocky road if you're currently in Singapore and don't have a residence in the USA. I thought that filers who were abroad had to show "re-establishing" or "maintaining" residence in the USA before their fiance visas will be approved. Good luck to you, but I hope you're well aware of that issue!

Relationship since April 2006

K-1 Visa: I-129F filed November 6, 2012, NOA2 May 17, 2013, Interview and Approval July 24, 2013

I was just talknig to her about it. We may let the K1 process "die" and just get married in Singapore. Her tie to Singapore will be me. I can show that I have a contract with my Singapore employer, and that we have a bank account here. Then it shuld be no problem for her to get a tourist visa anytime we want to take a vacation to the USA.

Until recently I was seeking a K1 for my Burmese fiancé.

2012 09 27 First date
2013 01 01 Started cohabiting, and obtained a joint bank account
2013 07 13 Engagement
2013 10 11 Sent i129F to USCIS
2013 10 18 Received NOA1 from USCIS
2013 11 12 Received RFE notice - Almost decided to change the venue to Thailand. Sat on the RFE for about three weeks before proceeding.2013 12 20 RFE answer package received by USCIS
2013 12 23 NOA2 received from USCIS
2014 01 14 After demonstrating the hate Americans have tward the chidfree, my fiancé has no desire to visit the USA.

Going forward, I will sell off my remaining assets in the USA. I doubt I will ever return. Americans are second only to the French when it comes to rudeness.

So if we are married in Singapore. We will then have a valid Singapore marriage license. The national language in Singapore is English so the marriage license will be valid at the US embassy. A K1 or K3 is then irreverent because we will NOT be moving to the USA. We will only travel there on vacation, to have a second wedding that her sister can attend, and to sell off some assets in the USA.

In order for me to fulfill her dream of visiting San Francisco, I can do this:

1. Show a copy of my bank statements in the USA (One with $10,000, and the investment account with about $130,000).

2. Show a copy of our joint bank statement in Singapore ($50,000).

3. Show our marriage license.

4. Show my contract with my employer in Singapore (Salary is over $100,000).

5. Show a letter from HR stating that I am working in Singapore.

6. Show that she is attending a vocational school in Singapore.

Her family is in Myanmar. She has no assets other than her personal savings account with perhaps $3000, a few thousand in jewelry, and partial (1/5) ownership of a business in Myanmar.

Please give your opinion. Do I have enough to show that she has ties to Singapore, and is not a risk to overstay her visa? I wish I could just put up a bond of $20,000 in escrow that would be forfeit if she overstays her visa.

Awesome thread idea!

Maybe we can put solutions in here as well? For example, instead of getting your forms and information from the Consulate sites, or VJ, or anywhere else, always check the uscis.gov site for the most up to date version of the form AND instructions, including fee amounts.

This is one that has caught many people out. Forms take years to get changed (literally) but webpages can be updated quickly. Always double check at uscis.gov before sending any payment or form.

That is so true. When I started my process I did a lot of research and came across VJ and it was very helpful. But it is always best to get the forms from the USCIS website. I started off by filling out the I-129F but by the time I had gathered all my information and was ready to submit the form had been updated so luckily I was able to download the new correct form to file. I am pretty sure had I submitted with that expired form my petition would have been sent back and delayed.

Our K-1 Visa Journey: I am the petitioner
10/27/12 - Reconnected in person (1st visit)
11/08/12 - First phone chat upon my return to the US (we have communicated via phone, text, facebook, viber, what's app, tango, skype, magic jack, instagram everyday since)
02/08/13 - Second visit - I flew to meet him
05/24/13 - Third visit ( both flew to Antigua to meet his mom)
05/28/13 - Got engaged
11/01/13 - Package mailed via USPS Priority mail
11/04/13 - Package confirmed received
11/07/13 - NOA1 via text & e-mail
11/08/13 - Alien Registration # changed
11/13/13 - I-797 received in the mail (NOA1 Hard copy)
12/11/13 - Status changed to approved text & e-mail (NOA2) dancin5hr.gifrofl.gifdancin5hr.gifgood.gifkicking.gif

12/18/13 - Status changed notification via text & e-mail shipped to NVC dancin5hr.gifdancin5hr.gif

New RFE. They need a more legdgable final devorce decree.

Any suggestions on the simplest way to withdraw a K1 request?

Make sure that if you were divorced more than once that you include all of your divorce decrees! I was so pissed when I received an RFE for that. You would think that the latest decree filed should suffice and state that you are no longer married and have the ability to marry again.ranting33va.gif

I am writing a letter to withdraw the K1 request. Obtaining the divorce decree is another trip that I do not want to take. I have too much to get done now, and no time to do it.

The USA has nothing to offer other than tourism. I have no future plan to live in that place.

We will get married here in Singapore, then seek a B2 visa for a visit

So, I received an RFE for letter of intent from the beneficiary. Must have missed that in the instruction, but don't quite remember reading any distinction to have 2 letters. But anyway, I mailed in my RFE package and they received it on December 5th. It is now December 17th, almost 2 weeks later. Does anyone know a good time estimate for this? I would assume if they just needed the last letter it wouldn't be too long? (Knock on wood).

sorry to hear that about the photos but congrats on the approval! It seems like all service centers have really slowed down. Surprised it took 3 weeks to get

your NOA2 based on a passport photo RFE.

I am still waiting for my RFE reply but mine was worse; I sent G325 instead of G325A. Maybe it takes more checking and such :(
