My cousin had an RFE b/c he put a "N/A" wheroule a "No" should go.

Make sure you are following the example forms that this website provides.

They are there for a reason!

Here is my To-Avoid-an-RFE Question:

I am writing my work history on the G-325A on a separate sheet of paper. The full name of my employers and their addresses are too long to fit into the blanks.

However, to avoid sending in blank boxes, Do you have any advice? Am I being too picky?

Thank you!

Hi all we sent our I 129F on 2nd May 2011 in Sept we recieved an RFE as we had forgot to enclose the G-325A Biographic Information form they updated the USCIS that they recieved on 31st October 2011 and to wait 60 days to hear anything. On the 3rd January we rang the Vermont Service Centre as we had not heard from them they put in a Service Response and a week later we got a letter which i understand is a typical generic one size fits all reply :

Based on your request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time. If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please contact customer service at the number provided below.

I am now at a loss of thinking that another 6 months will go by and if this is the case it will be well over 12 months from submitting our petition is there anything else that can be done im wondering or do we just sit it out and hope to hear before the 6 months ...

quick uodate for you all we got a letter today saying we have been approved on the 24th January

I'm new on this site but so glad I have found it, it was so helpful to start that long process ! Now the waiting game is on for at least 5 months according to the USCIS Vermont Center ! I thought being a Canadian citizen would help to ease the process but it seems not !

Nope, doesn't help at all. We tend to take advantage of the relationship we Canadians have with the US, but when it comes to immigration, we wait the same as everyone else. :) Good luck with your process.

Well, I'm expecting my packet to be returned, not so much an RFE, just a incredibly stupid mistake that somehow everyone who looked over my packet missed.

While it's been said that you shouldn't postdate your check, it's worth mentioning you should also be sure to write the right month so you don't accidentally postdate it. I didn't MEAN to postdate my check but I realized just today that I somehow stupidly wrote 10/15/2006 when I meant to write 08/15/2006. Brilliant. Does anyone know where the checks normally get cashed if they were sent to Nebraska? Do I have to wait for it to get to California?

What date exactly should be on the check? The very same date you are sending out the k-1 package?

We got the 2nd RFE requiring three things:

1. Signed statement of how we met, in detail and under what circumstances -- We just put "we met on ICQ" initially, now they want an elaboration.

2. Alien fiancee's divorce decree -- we attached my Annullment Decree in the original submission, yet they asked again. Oh well. So we are sending it again, and also a copy of the Annotated Marriage Contract. This is the requirement of the US Embassy in Manila, might as well furnish USCIS a copy.

3. Birth Certificates of all fiancee's children -- Of my three children, only my youngest, my daughter, is eligible for K2, and we already atached her birth certificate in the initial submission (per lawyer's instructions). Now they are asking for the birth certificates of my two sons who are above 21 and not elegible for K2 anyhow. The lawyer said we need not submit the boys' birth certificates, as it seems like a mistake by USCIS. But then again the Manila Embassy requires it (Item 2/e of Fiance(e) Visa Application Packet), see link: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfivk1.pdf

So we decided to send the birth certificates anyways.

The USCIS website said they sent 2nd RFE on 16 September, we just got it today.

Oh, and while waiting our heads off wondering what that 2nd RFE would be for, we were kind of convinced it was for the discrepancy in the name of my fiance (the USC), considering the importance of name checks. The Passport Office made a mistake in putting a "Jr" on his passport, which shouldn't be. As it turned out, we werent' RFE'd for that.

Gen

Did you both have to sign the statement of how you met, or only the petitioner?

I received an RFE last week asking that my divorce Judgement needed the actual signature by the judge -- mine only had his stamp indicating judge's full name. I went to the country court and got a full-fledged divorce judgement with judge's signature and over-nighted it to CSC. I have been waiting for an update for 6 days so far!

Current date. The date you fill it out, or the date you send it, doesn't really matter - as long as you don't put a date out in the future or in the past.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

OMG am I gonna get an RFE for messing up the dates on my G-325A form? I put on the last employment time frame 2011 rather than 2012 it was only on one line now I have a gap from 02/2012 to 01/2011, the "01/2011" was supposed to be 2012 :( I don't wanna get an RFE over one little number that I screwed up on, I got confused doing the timeline thing because I was still used to doing 2011 and not prepared myself for putting "2012"

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a question it took me one rfe but we already have more than a month since the office of Vermont received the response and have not said anything this is normal because I've seen people who will respond in 10 or 5 days

I haven't received an RFE yet, but I do remember someone here saying they received an RFE because he/she wrote "N/A" where he or she should have written "None". It sounds trivial, but. . . . it's worth making the distinction if failing to do so results in an RFE...

Depending on what the field was for, USCIS told me that their immigration agents preferred one way versus the other, but that they would be able to understand if there was a slight mistake (I think in the instructions it says to use "NONE").

What was your RFE for? It's usually not going to take long but depends on the RFE and the person sitting with your case/petition. If they have a whole pile of RFE responses to go through on their desk, then it's going to take longer than if they only have a couple of them to go through.
