This is a good thread. I just joined in the last hour, and already wishing i had known about this site 4 months ago when we filed. We got the NOA1 like a week after but heard nothing since, and after cecking the check list here, i know for a fact that we didn't send in the letters of intent as we were never told to! ARGH! Expecting a RFE soon. Anyone know how much time this might add? Thanks

for me, i got rfe almost 5 months after my noa1's date, and got noa2 2 weeks after rfe' email from USCIS

Good luck :)

Wow you got your NOA2 so fast after they received your RFE! Did they update your case to approved online? Or did your NOA2 just arrive in the mail?

yeah, it was pretty fast, we got email for RFERR, but i never get email for NOA2, my fiance got it in the mail, he was soo surprised and nervous in a same time, he was afraid if the letter is another rfe, because it was soo fast, but he was so relieved when read "the above petition has been approved" i am glad u have sent the rfe back, i hope u will get noa2 soon,

we got a touched on 16 nov, this is for rferr, and the other one on 17 nov, tht is all :)

I received my RFE in the mail toady. It is requesting proof of "US Citizenship" and "That Petitioner and Beneficiary Have Met in Person." I submitted my birth certificate which had nothing on the back and listed my parents name and birth place, and of course, my birth place and date, my name, etc. It's not that long so maybe it isn't the "long-form certificate." I am planning on resubmitting my birth certificate again along with a copy of my US passport and ALL pages (even if blank). I think that should be sufficient. I really do not have any other proof of my citizenship if those two are not sufficient evidence. As for the requirements that we have met in person, I originally submitted a letter explaining how we met (as part of the requirements for the I-129F form) as well as a letter from our landlord (we lived together for nearly 6 months before I came back to the US to submit my I-129F petition) stating that we rented a room and BOTH lived there, it also stated how much we paid in rent each month. Unfortunately, we didn't have any other expenses associated with the room, everything was included, and since we lived together we did not have skype or email records and we both used pre-paid phones, so no phone records. HA you would think living together would be proof of having met in person within the last two years. I also submitted a letter from my brother stating that he had witnessed our relationship after he came to visit us. I also submitted a photo of the three of us together during his visit. In addition to both letters I also submitted 5 other photos of us together, date stamped from January 2010 to June 2010. I now understand these photos are not primary evidence, but rather secondary evidence to both letters. I can now submit boarding passes and receipt from my trip from early Nov 2010 when I went to visit my fiance. I can also submit (specifically) the pages from my passport that show the passport stamps from my trip in early Nov 2010 to show that we have met in person. I also have phone records, skype calls/chats, emails, and financial support (in the form of wire transfers) to show that we have an ongoing relationship. I am considering submitting all of this evidence. I no longer think there is such a thing as too much evidence. They are not even accepting my proof of US citizenship for Gods sake!

My question to anyone that may have insight is my fiance is not in his home country, therefore my evidence (such as boarding passes and air fare receipts) all will be to the country where he is currently living and not his home country. I am planning on submitting a letter, in addition to all the evidence I have listed, explaining that he lives outside his home country b/c I am concerned that they are not accepting our evidence b/c none of it shows proof of having traveled to his home country. I have never been to his home country. Does anyone know if this is possibly the problem that resulted in the RFE (at least for the requirement of having met in person request)? Any insight for what specifically they are looking for and what I can do to avoid another RFE?

WAHOO!!! NOA2 email yesterday, 12/7!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly one week from the receipt of my RFE materials. They asked for proof of citizenship, proof that we've met in the last two years, and intent to marry. (I included all those things the first time, but WHATEVER.) So I mailed back copies of both my and my fiance's passports, letters from friends, coworkers and my pastor, emails/contracts for wedding related stuff, screen shots of photos w/digital dates from media card, and a pleading letter! Hahaha...Either way, WE GOT APPROVED! And now it's on to the next round!

Some friend from work surprised us with plane tickets for my fiance to come for Christmas/New Year's/our birthdays (mine's the 23rd and his is the 25th of Dec)!!!!!!!!! They knew we couldn't afford a trip and got together and bought it themselves!!!!!! So my BABY IS GOING TO BE HERE IN TWO WEEKS, arriving ON my birthday!!!!!!!! What an AMAZING December this is shaping up to be!! GOD IS GOOD!

The short form birth certificate is the wallet sized one that lists name, place of birth, other basic details.

The long form birth certificate includes the names of parents and their birthplace as well.

I sent in my birth certificate that has both my parents names and birth places listed. I got it directly from the Vital Records office, they printed it right there on the spot for me. I got an RFE requesting proof of US citizenship. I wouldn't chance it, send the passport, all pages!

I don't know if failure to do this will result in an RFE as I did it anyway just in case, but instead of a mere photocopy of my birth certificate, I obtained a certified copy from Dept of Health Services and sent it it with the original certification. It only cost about $25.00, well worth the extra security.

Anybody ever get an RFE from a mere photocopy?

As for the passport, I sent the first page with my photo and the adjoining page with the info, as well as the page with the Russian travel visa and visa stamp for the trip to meet my fiance. I felt that other pages containing visas to meet other Russian ladies where the trips went bust and other irrelevant travel stamps (Holland, Germany, Austria, etc) would only confuse them, so I omitted them. I read the part about birth certificate OR every page of the passport and since I sent the birth certificate, every page of the passport would not be necessary. I hope I am right. I suppose I will find out in a few months.

I noticed somebody asked a week or so ago if there was a list of all RFEs so people could look out for possible "boo-boos." So here we go!

My RFE reason was;

The forms we downloaded didn't tell us to add evidence of meeting in the past two years or frontal face photographs. Which is weird because we got them directly off the London Embassy site. So we got an RFE for basically the other half of what you're suppost to send origionally. We started the K-1 appliciation before we found this forum so we were kinda just going with the instructions as best as we could. We say if you're just starting the I-129F download it from VJ...they seem to have the right instructions....

Hi this is the same reason we waited 5 months to get any answer, one way or another. I also downloaded directly from USCIS site and it too didn't list specifics of evidence required. We are awaiting the RFE letter mailed to the Dave- the petitioner on Dec. 29. Even after sending a letter to the California Service center directly requesting if perhaps, we missed something in our application, in early November we were never notified. Also our receipt form I-797C (NOA1) didn't specify any information was missing. I would think that with this receipt they would indicate our appliation was missing pertinent info. They also indicatied my Country of Birth as "unknown"? on the reciept (should I refer to it as NOA or 1-797c?). When we called requesting they amend the error, they did send an email confirmation of their "typographical" error and were to send an amended receipt notice within 30 days, which never came. The email date was 10/20/10.
