SSN takes one (1) month to approve???

I applied for SSN (Btw, I'm a K1 visa holder) last month but was denied with my application since my I-94 already expired. So I decided to wait for my EAD (Employment Authorization Card) instead which finally arrived the other day. Knowing that an EAD would be one of the requirements for me to avail an SSN, it made me wonder now why it will take so long for SSA to issue an SSN card (one month++). I've read in other forums that the SSA's reason is for them to verify my file at the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) but it doesn't make sense that it will take them at least a month or more than that. What's causing all the delay???

Who is telling you that it will take one month?

We got our card in the mail 6 days after going to the SSA office. There was no delay whatsoever. Where are you being told one month?

eh - given your exact situation - K-1 visa holder with EAD card -

it's going to require DHS verification, initiated at the SSA office when you apply in person.

So, will it take 30 days? Depends, really, on what happens with the DHS Verification.

If your EAD name is not the same name on your K-1 visa stamp, then expect longer time for the DHS Verification.

The delay comes from you filing after the I-94 expired. Now you need to take the long path. All you can do is ride it out. If you weren't in a rush during the 90 days you had to get it done, it should not be a rush now.
