Maybe it is, I don't think so, at any rate, a little kid being in such a photo is meaningless compared to the pics I see of kids with bongs, condoms, beer, smokes.

It looks like belted ammo in the pic.... what would his parents be doing with that?

After all this time why the question about who it is... if it were really him?

Using the gun range for parents and kids to bond is fine, no problem.

From the reports we have seen on THIS kid that safe should have been locked up with every gun in it.

I don't think you can say it's meaningless in the context of what he went on to do. He was a deeply disturbed individual, something that had been noted by other kids and his teachers (that is, before his mother took him out of the public school system and home-schooled him), he was obsessed with violent imagery and kept a scrapbook of school shootings. So rather than get him treated, his mother bought him guns and took him shooting.

Brilliant.

The article says the kid would only communicate with his mother over email - yet her way of trying to bond with him was to buy him guns and take him hunting and shooting. Does that seem right to you? Do you think the mother was a responsible gun owner?

BTW - if this is correct, apparently the kid in the photo is Adam Lanza...

Nothing in your link but more links, like a menu. Maybe site is under construction, will try again later.

Even if the kid IS Adam Lanza.... no biggie. I used to play with toy guns when I was a kid. Even gnawed on them, I'm sure. Kids put things in their mouth, right?

(BTW, the article said he was gnawing on a revolver... not very accurate reporting, eh?)

The mother had guns in a safe. That's more than some people do. Pretty responsible. She taught him how to properly handle a gun at an early age. Yes, responsible.

We know of emails (purportedly... none are quoted in the article. I email MY dad, too. AND I have been known to email my wife in the same house as I. Maybe I'm going to kill someone soon?), but we don't know what conversations (if any) happened daily.

The fact that he shot her 4 times to the head... that's purty violent. Why? We will never know. Sexual abuse? Abandonment? Speculation only.

Even if it is not the killer and we're just speaking hypothetically a reasonable person might ask if it is appropriate to pose a child with a firearm in order to take a photo - does it seriously not seem to you to be inappropriate at best? I don't know about you but I wouldn't do it. What is not appropriate to photograph a child holding - what about knives, sex toys? When does 'cute' become wrong? Someone who can't make that judgement about something as inoccuous as a photo clearly isn't firing on all cylinders.

The point of the piece is that the kid was very disturbed - if his mother noticed that (she must have to some degree since there was a partial autism diagnosis when he was a child) nothing was done about it. And a reasonable person might wonder if keeping a load of guns in your house that your disturbed son can have ready access to was a good idea.

Often, pics of kids are not posed, they are spontaneous. Kind of like a pic of me as a kid that my family loves. In it, I am wearing my uncle's stetson and cowboy boots and a diaper. In some ways, it could be viewed as inappropriate. But it was a kid trying to emulate his favorite uncle. Taken when I did it, not because I was posed. The same could be said of the kid gnawing on a toy gun with a bandoleer or bullets across his lap. Perhaps he pulled them off the gun rack in the background, but lost interest when they tasted bad, so went back to sucking on his own toy gun. IDK.

Nope, and not many have belted ammo (or a need for it) except someone with access to military surplus. Or perhaps a civilian ASP custodian who was able to swipe some and took the rounds out of the belts to use.

Amazing, the gun aficionados are so obsessed with guns themselves they see nothing bizarre about gun obsessions and what they can lead to -

So what do gun obsessions lead to, exactly?

Obviously in this case it lead to the school shooting. More specifically, I suppose it meant that the kid's disturbed behaviour was ignored and rather than seek treatment for her son's problems his mum chose to home school him and take him shooting.

The guns in the house facilitated his actions.

Your logic is flawed. Based on your assessment of the case, anyone who has a well-stocked bar in their house is going to go out and run over a kid while drinking and driving.
