You should also note that, while the Mail is an incredibly right leaning newspaper, they are not so blinded by gun obsessives that they see this home as normal and irrelevant to the events that took place. For the rest of the world, such homes are indicative of the epidemic of mass shootings that the US is privy to lead the world in. The rest of the world is clearly mistaken.

The events that took place up there have nothing to do with the normality of the home and everything to do the normality of what appears to be a highly disturbed but largely abandoned kid. What is interesting is the use of this event to further political agendas.

Otherwise, not a bit of time is worth being spent wondering, caring, changing routine for, or in any way, shape, or fashion wasting thought on what the rest of the world thinks of this country.

It IS a handgun, cuz it's held in one hand. More to the point, it's a Crossman break-barrel dart gun, .177 caliber. Typically sold with a wound-paper target at Wal Mart and similar stores.

Here's the other side of a similar one...

Yeah. It's a toy, not a weapon of mass destruction.

What political agenda is the Mail furthering? Please, enlighten, I am all agog.

Pretending that the home environment had no effect on the kids behaviour is utterly bizarre, but if you are in denial, I guess this is what you must do to make your world view work.

Is agog another word for histrionic?

Pretending: Claiming that a story focusing on pictures of the guns and gun cabinets and ignoring / not mentioning the kid himself or the kid's problems is not an attempt to imply that guns are bad or wrong.

With that said - What part of abandoning a highly disturbed kid to his own devices down in a basement does not imply that this was not a healthy home environment?

I don't know what you are on about to be honest. Perhaps you should read the story rather than basing your comments on the voices in your head?

Was the presence of guns in that home a healthy influence on the kid?

Amazing, the gun aficionados are so obsessed with guns themselves they see nothing bizarre about gun obsessions and what they can lead to - they'd rather comment on how miserable a collection it is, rather than this is an example of an unhealthy obsession and a mother who cared so little about her child that she did not question anything about his state of mind, just bought him more guns. Brilliant as usual gunster fox tribe members good.gif

Nope, I am just smart enough to know that owning guns, even MANY guns, does not make a person "unhealthy". That comes from within, usually, or perhaps from a particular upbringing. Only a fool would ever try to blame a person's bad decisions on the quantity of guns they have now, or what types of toy guns they had as a kid. Most boys I grew up with had quite an array of toy guns, and to date, no one I have ever known has shot a gun at another human being.

I also have friends who have more ammo in their house than Wal-Mart does. But you'd never know it, just talking to them in person. Then again, they're Mormon, so that explains a lot... content.gif

The presence of guns was irrelevant to his upbringing. In fact, there is no way of telling that the kid in the pic was even the shooter. For all YOU know, that pic was of me as a kid.

What is more likely to have influenced said shooter were bullies at his school, an inferiority complex, sexual abuse, etc. But we will probably never know. So now on to a new topic...

Depends on the masses, actually. One of those would wreak total HAVOC on a platoon of little green soldiers!!

I believe the point being made is that the kid's home life WAS the reason he was disturbed and that the kid and his mother's fixation with guns and shooting were a part of that picture that can't be ignored.

The US does have more of these types of mass shooting incidents than anywhere else in the developed world. However, noone seems terribly interested in why that might be.

Thats because we don't want to know or talk about the things these people have in common... long before they pick up a gun.

The article says the kid would only communicate with his mother over email - yet her way of trying to bond with him was to buy him guns and take him hunting and shooting. Does that seem right to you? Do you think the mother was a responsible gun owner?

BTW - if this is correct, apparently the kid in the photo is Adam Lanza...

Maybe it is, I don't think so, at any rate, a little kid being in such a photo is meaningless compared to the pics I see of kids with bongs, condoms, beer, smokes.

It looks like belted ammo in the pic.... what would his parents be doing with that?

After all this time why the question about who it is... if it were really him?

Using the gun range for parents and kids to bond is fine, no problem.

From the reports we have seen on THIS kid that safe should have been locked up with every gun in it.

A shocking arsenal of guns ... That sets the tone for the whole story....You look at a set of hand picked photos that tell you nothing. ... Just what the media and the government wants you to know....
