POE San Francisco

Hello everyone,

here's my POE experience for San Francisco from last Thursday evening.

I got into San Francisco at approx. 7pm, and headed towards immigration, the envelope and my passport in my hands.

In SFO they have an extra line for "new immigrants" (the desk is the second from the left) and since I was the only one in line, there was no wait.

The officer took the envelope, my passport and smalltalked about the flight and about the weather, asked about my date of birth and when we got married.

He then walked out of his "box" to fingerprint me (black ink, right index finger, twice) and had me sign for the greencard (also twice).

After that he asked me whether I was happy and looking forward to living in Seattle (I was really surprised by that question I have to admit), in the meantime he was finishing my documents, handed my passport and the customs form back to me and finished my immigration with the words:

"welcome to our country, good luck!"

The whole thing took about 10 minutes tops, the officer was very nice, helpful (I had a couple of questions about the customs form) and patient.

Going through customs was a breeze- I told the officer I had chocolates in my suitcase and all he wanted to know whether I had meat or sausages in my suitcase. We joked about that for a second, and off I went! 3 minutes, not more.

I'm not sure why there were no other immigrants, might have been the time of day (I believe, most international flights get into SFO in the morning and during the day, not so much during the evening?)

Good luck to all that are still in the process- and happy holidays!
