The fact that people (my ex-husband being one of them) say that there are no jobs out there is a load of rubbish. My husband arrived here in June of 2008 right at the beginning of the economy falling to pieces. He was able to get a job in a matter of months. Something he wanted to do? No...but he took it and was grateful for the opportunity. When we went back to the UK, we heard the same thing...no jobs, no jobs, no jobs....he got a job in less than a month. A good job, making good money. We just got back to the US November 1st....and guess who had started a new job on December 2? Yes, my husband. My hard working, blue collar husband. Nope, he doesn't have a masters degree, but he is willing to take a job and do it to support his family. Is he hoping for something he likes better to come along? Of course, he wouldn't be human if that were the case. But until then, he gets up at 4 every morning and goes to work at a job that is paying the bills. He's my hero luv.gif

Every chinese person I know is employed. Most work 2 jobs often 7 days a week if they are blue collar . My wife never told her parents what she did the first few years she was here , It was well below what she did in China. She worked hard and is in a good position now. (she still works 7 days a week) University bills will be 60,000+ next year for her son.

Education is expensive (OMG! Don't I know it?) But one of the best part time jobs you can have is searching for granst/scholarships for her son. We have been able to secure some incredible funds for the boys (and for Alla) That $60,000 could be $30,000 or $20,000 or even -0-!!! Pasha and I spent several days putting together an application for a grant that netted him $17,000! Where are you going to work 4 days part time and make that kind of money? His education this year is in the $50,000 bracket and we will pay less than $20,000 out of pocket, so far but we are still apllying for grants...no student loans!

2 years ago Sergey landed a fully paid scholarship with stipend at Rice University!

Good luck!

You are saying my son should be a prostitute?

How interesting, instead of addressing your question to the person who has openly stated that they have no morals and supports the freedom of women to become prostitutes, you address it to me. Congratulations.

Danno, you need to take that question and ask it in most of the countries in Europe. The leaders there can't answer it either.

Are you kidding me? Germany produces more electricity with solar than the output of a nuklear plant.

Yeah, but that's different, LIB... they don't work to make money, they work for the ultimate communist takeover of the US. Coming soon to a large city near you! rofl.gif

Well, I gotta admit, I thought you were talking to him too. In fact, you are the first person in the thread to bring up the oldest profession. Do you know something of its lucrativeness? To whom WERE addressing the remark?

My hippies friends are all in a panic - they will only be able to collect 6 months of unemployment next year on the 8 weeks of work they did over the holidays this year.

'Tis a tragedy, eh?

Comes at a bad time for me, too. I was looking forward to 99 weeks of free money after 25.5 years of employment. Should have quit LAST year!

If what both of you are saying - I am not disputing it - it means that the actual unemployment figures are much lower than those published by the government. The consequence being that once these benefits end, the unemployment rate should fall sharply not because the figures are being masked but simply because a large part of the contingent - if not all, as suggested by your posts - has elected to be unemployed.

I believe Gary brought it up in a previous thread (prostitution as a viable, lucrative career path) and had said elsewhere that he has no morals. If that is indeed the case, such a person would have no issue with their child following said career path - since without morals the ends justify the means. So it's connected if you believe that what a person says in one thread adds context to what they say in others, or if it exposes an underlying hypocrisy. Edited by Papa Lazarou

The unemployment rate WILL drop when these jobless are dropped from the roles of collecting compensation. They will no longer be counted in the figures that make up the percentages, because they are not actively seeking work, in the government's eyes. So if 100,000 people stop getting bennies suddenly, the unemployment rate drops, even though there are the SAME number of people not actively seeking jobs (as they are considered to be even if they sit at home for 99 weeks collecting).

The unemployment rate doesn't drop nearly as much when people actually get hired, cuz rarely do 100,000 new hires happen all at once.

If there is an unmet supply for jobs as the two posters suggested these figures should indeed fall and reflect a picture which is closer to reality. If their testimonial is indicative of the real world, the actual unemployment rate is already much lower than the figures show, for they include those who opt to be unemployed.
