Is there any other Americans planning to marry a Mexican or already married that DONT speak Spanish? I'm planning on flying to el paso and taking a taxi across to the Juarez airport to meet my fiancé where he will be waiting for me. has anyone else had any problems traveling and doing this stuff without being able to speak Spanish? I'm a little nervous about going by myself but I don't really have any other choice. I've flown to mexico city before and he's always met me right there in the airport and I've never had any problems but this is going to be a lot different. If anyone could please let me know their experiences it would be greatly appreciated

I have never traveled anywhere in Mexico without my husband, so I cannot really completely answer. I will say though that a lot of people know English, especially taxi drivers that have routes on the border of the US and Mexico. You can also Google for taxis from El Paso to Juarez and find ones that you can make an arrangement with before getting there, so you know where to go and that they speak English, such as this > http://www.eptonystaxi.com/

There are a couple experiences and taxi services listed in this thread > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/365518-el-paso-to-juarez-consulate/

I totally understand.... let me know if you need some translations... if you type something up I can translate it for you so you can get around... :) I quoted Ciudad Juarez and it was like $800 dollars... I would rather save that to meet up with my fiance and come back with him to the US... I am going to Mexico tomorrow.... I hope for no long lines at the airport :(

Do not worry. I drove from Mexicali to Juarez about 1000 miles on the Mexico side a few weeks ago. I am very gringo being pasty with Blue eyes and everywhere I go I am always called - Hey Guerro. I stayed at the Micro tel Hotel which was perfect. The front desk guys all spoke english. They is a Dennys and a Wendys in the Parking Lot. There is a Starbucks and a big mall with a movie theater right across the street. The embassy is 100 yards away. The medical offices are 75 yards away. I tried ordering in my bad Spanish at both the Wendys and Starbucks and both times I was cut off in the first sentence with an English reply of what can I get for you. Because Juarez is so close to the border speaking Spanish would not be a problem for you. I drove a car with California plates all over Juarez or at least around the embassy and I didn't see anything. I asked the front desk as to where all the Americans are and he says because of all the bad news they do not come anymore. I never saw one white guy the whole 8 days I was in Juarez and probably spoke to 15 people in English.

Just a quick advice once you are in Juarez be very careful it is a very dangerous place specially at night. Drive carfelly and dont dress very elegant. My grandma did not have the best experiance and she is Mexican. Lots of ppl are scared to take a trip to Juarez...I knoe I am too. We are just waiting on our waiver approval to go to the interview in juarez.
