Waiting for Packet 3

Its been 8 days since the consulate in Bangkok received the approved petition and there has been no sign of packet 3. Is this normal for packet 3 to be taking this long? Is it possible to call the consulate and ask them for information? When I check the status it says this:

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment. Additional information about how Immigrant Visa interview appointments are scheduled can be found at:http://travel.state..../info_3731.html

Does this mean we should schedule the appointment now? Or wait for the appointment letter?
Thanks again.

Download the P 3 and send it if you are sure the case is with the I V section. The receipt of the P 3 will trigger the interview date to be set.

When you say d/l packet 3, do you mean submit the DS 160 form online and that will trigger the interview? Thanks

No. Go to embassy web site to find immigrant visas. Find the info to download P 3 info. Its in the K visa section near the bottom of the page.

Do you have the police report? Medical? If not she can send in the other completed forms along with a note indicating she will hand carry what she doesn't send.

You should ask the mods to move this to the Thai portal. Do that by using the report button at the of the bottom of the page.

This time of year 8 days is not a long time. You can not schedule the interview. The Consulate will do that when you return the P3.

A couple things you can do.......

Contact the Consulate, confirm they have your file. visasbkkiv@state.gov

Download the P3 and get started with all your chores. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/thailand/591452/iv/102013_k_instruction_packet_3.pdf

You will need the police report (about two weeks)

You will need the embassy medical exam. (completed in one day)

You will need to go to any Thai Post and pay the Visa fee.

You will need English and Thai versions of Birth certificate, free to marry certificate, (if children out of wedlock) get multiple original documents. Send only copies in the P3 take originals to the interview.

You will need current passport with at least 6 months remaining.

Assume nothing. if you have a question, post it in the Thai portal. A mistake at this stage can cost you a lot of time.
