Double Standard in Immigration Status and Military Service

From another thread in another forum about rights as green card holder, I got to thinking about the Selective Service System which requires that all males between age 18 and 25 who are US Citizens, or Immigrants (Illegal and Legal) to register for the military draft. However, Illegal Aliens or Aliens without permanent residency cannot "join" the military but they could be drafted into the military should there ever be a need for a military conscription--this seems to be a double standard.

NOTE if you are a legal immigrant then you are automatically registered:

With the cooperation of the U.S. Citizenship and

Immigration Services, immigrant men age 18 through

25 who are accepted for permanent U.S. residence also

become automatically registered with Selective Service.

Men of registration age who complete an application

for an immigrant visa with the U.S. Department of State

are automatically registered. During FY 2005, nearly

45,000 men were automatically registered through

this interagency arrangement.

In accordance with Georgia law, "The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act," I am required to display the following in any and all languages that I may give immigration related advise:

'I AM NOT AN ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW AND MAY NOT GIVE LEGAL ADVICE OR ACCEPT FEES FOR LEGAL ADVICE.'

"NO SOY ABOGADO LICENCIADO PRACTICAR LEY Y NO PUEDO DOY ASESORAMIENTO JURÍDICO O ACEPTO LOS HONORARIOS PARA El ASESORAMIENTO JURÍDICO."

They also have the right to go back to their birth country and not be part of the draft..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It's a disgusting double standard, and when you add to that there is no franchise for immigrants to voice their opinion on war/conflict, it is even more disgusting.

I think the selective service as a whole is sickening.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

Immigration (legal or illegal) is a privilege. Don't want to be drafted? Don't come.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Or wait 'til you passed the eligible age span.

yes.

How arrogant to go to a country and think the rules don't apply to you.

This the exact reason why the US needs to play catch up with the rest of Europe and implement a modern immigration and citizenship test. Where someone has to understand and ultimately accept the law of the country they are migrating too.

Or, this is exactly why the selective service must be abolished, among other things.

So are you suggesting non US citizens should be allowed to sit back in the US while everyone else fights for it in a time of war?

I'm saying the selective service, for whomever, is bul!######. We have a volunteer military. That is how it should be.

Name one of the "everyone else" who is fighting in the war now? NONE.

No we have a volunteer military only for US Citizens and LPR only. Undocumented aliens are part of the Drafted Military as they cannot willfully join the military but must register for the conscription.

So if a major war broke out you would rather the country be destroyed rather than conscripted.. Living in a country is not a right but a privilege.. Something a lot of self centered people have forgotten..

When a war is believed to be just, the people will enlist. My grandpa still talks proudly about the day he signed up to be a pilot in WWII.

Infidel, please have some faith in Americans, because I like to believe we have a conscience.

If the government is representing the will of the people in going to war, they will not need a draft. If they don't represent our will, then what the he!! are they doing going to war anyway?

I like the idea of conscription. Even as a semester right after high school. It teachers kids pride and confidence as well as getting along with people from all stratas of life. Rich / Poor. Black / Asian etc.. Teachers Americans to become brother and sister rather than the state of internal hatred the country currently has.

Someone once told me the US will not be destroyed by a foreign power but will crumble from within. To be honest after living here for nearly a year and seeing the level of hatred and lack of loyalty for this country so many have, I am starting to believe it.

It would be really interesting to see how many liberals in comparison to conservatives are actually enlisted in the army..
