My husband is here on a fiance visa from Europe, driving on a European drivers license. We live in Illinois, the tickets are in Edmundson, MO. We were at a T intersection. He stopped at the stop sign on the road that continues through the intersection, the he made a left turn to the road that meets it and in one movement turned (on that road) around to that stop sign. He was a little too close to the side of the road to smoothly turn at the sign. He was attempting to turn and go the other way on the road we were coming from. he then put the van in reverse and backed through the intersection to the correct lane he wanted to be in, facing the way he wanted to go. So basically he did a 3 point turn in the T intersection. A Police officer was coming from the direction he backed into. Another car was coming from the opposite direction. We waved that other car to go ahead, but he waved us to go ahead instead. He continued through the intersection unaffected by our vehicle's movement. The police officer was far enough behind to also not be affected by our movements. After we were through the intersection, the cop turned his lights on and pulled us over. He called 2 other officers in also. He asked for drivers license, My husband gave him his European license and passport. He left, and a few minutes later came and handed us 2 tickets. Improper lane usage, and impeding the flow of traffic. There was no explanation.

We're about to file for the AOS and EAD, court isn't until mid January. We're considering fighting it. Wondering how this will affect anything, and whether he'll be able to get a license here, no idea how many points it would add to a license, no idea how that affects a European license, don't know if they could suspend his license, or refuse to give him a IL license. The way he did the turn was by the book for The Netherlands where his license was issued, but apparently illegal here. HMMM. Any advice?

Always fight a traffic ticket.

Odds are you can get the ticket reduced if the officer does not show up. Worst case is you lose a little time while attending the court appearance. I would suggest that you have your spouce study traffic laws here. If there are points involved you can have your spouce take a defensive driving course that should remove or reduce the points from the ticket.

I really doubt it will have any effect on the AOS or EAD.
