Hello everyone. I am just about to start the process so any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. My fiance and I will be getting married in the Dominican Republic (Her Home) next month and afterwards I will be filing for CR-1. I have read the guide and and feel pretty comfortable with how to begin the process along with potential pitfalls. I met my fiance Jan 2013 and I have visited her three times since during the past year. We speak nearly daily through the internet and phone. I am somewhat concerned with the Proof of bonafide marriage part of this being that we do not have common property ect.. There are some photos of us together from the previous trip but only about 6-7 and I have reciept of our staying together (both of our names registered on reservation) at a hotel in July and dozens and dozens of phone records establishing our conversations. Any advice on what else would be needed during filing and anything else that would help in initiating the process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Well you will have I am sure plenty of wedding picks to add and other evidence after you get married. face time is always #1 evidence.

Chats, Skype, letters, emails IM's phone records are secondary. Also affidavits from friends and family.

Co-mingling of finances and property is not required or expected since most of us don't live together yet. That's more at Removal of conditions time.

Show just keep collecting evidence of a bonafide relationship. Be sure to read the interview reviews of your embassy to get tips and advice.

Congratulations.

at the end of this guide there is a huge list of evidence you can send: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/EZGuideSpouse

Boarding passes and copies of your passport with stamps are also excellent ways of demonstrating you visited your soon to be wife in the DR. Don't forget copies of the marriage certificate (including valid translation into English). Lastly, be prepared to provide proof of ability to marry (both single, with certified copies of divorce judgements if relevant).

Three trips with documentation should be plenty - check out the timelines, etc. on VJ for more guidance.

Best of luck!

I was wondering why get married there a K1-f visa will get her hear quicker and with less problem.

There are some very valid reasons to get a CR1 visa over a K1. My husband and I chose the CR1 because I needed to be able to travel right away and preferred to be able to start looking for a job ASAP. Also most of my family is in Canada and I wanted select people at my wedding. It was his second wedding and he honestly wasn't concerned about his family being there as much as really the day is for us. The immigration fees you pay are signifigantly less for a CR1 as well, but with travel for me, it probably ended up being about equal.

Everyone needs to decide their own path, it's not always about what is quickest.

Thank you all so much for your quick reponses as this was my first post here and you all are great to be so helpfull. NLR thank you for the link to the guide with proofs that can be used. I did not see that before. JRF- your suggestions are great and the comment on the prior documented 3 trips "should be enough" helps alot -thank you. DW Wheels- you also offered advice I had not thought about re: reviews of our embassy and what they are and are not looking for is terrific. Thanks again!! I see that I have found a great group of people on this forum and feel much more confident knowing that your support is there.

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. Hey dwheels actually, DR is also considered High Fraud... even so much that if the Petitioner DOES NOT attend the Interview... it's often and automatic Denial... if the officer is kind or believes your honest/really in love... they will give a pass for an "Open Interview" and tell you to bring your Spouse/Partner back with you when you can... or it gets denied.

Hi Sky,

tell me about it.. I was shaking by the time they approved us... and they didn't those kinds of questions.. but it was just so intense the scrutiny... and ugly faces being made. (Like "Oh please" and "come on" kinda faces) but I just kept answering honestly... and they gave up I guess... lol Score one for tha Gringa!
