Hi Everybody and Happy Holidays

How far in advance can the medical be done? Since my wife lives in Saskatoon and her only options are ontario montreal and surrey. She might be going to Vancouver soon. so I am thinking she can do her medical there. We just got our NOA2 on Dec 13 and are waiting to start the NVC process.

You also want the medical to be as close to the interview as possible. The validity of the visa is from the medical, not the interview. It will also makes things easier for when you start the Adjustment of Status (AOS) because the medical is valid for a year. If you apply within a year, you can use the same results instead of paying for a new one.

This does not pertain to a cr-1/ir-1 Im from Prince Albert----Parents have lived in Stoon since 2003.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

thanks for the replies. I guess there is no choice. Its absolutely ridiculous that no other place than Montreal for the visa and on top of it you have to spend a week there to wait for results before the interview. then go back home and pray they will mail your visa. Sure makes it a challenge to plan your life. by the way my wife is from Glaslyn. Good luck to all and thanks for replies

I had to do it, I received my visa package the next day from the consulate. So it worked out really well even though I was prepared to wait a couple weeks. Check to see if 2 flights are cheaper than a week away as well.


I went from Central Alberta FYI, took 1.5 hrs to get to either Edmonton or Calgary airport... Interview was on a Monday so I arrived in Montreal the Monday before, had the medical on Tuesday, got the results late Friday, flew home at 2pm, same day, after the Interview.
