For Christmas Eve I did a small boneless rib roast cooked outside on the Weber charcoal grill. Served with baked potato, broccoli florets with breadcrumbs browned in butter, and a salad plate with tomato, cucumber slices, black and green olives and palm hearts.

Christmas dinner will be at my sister's: ham, lasagna, green bean casserole, asparagus, cauliflower with cheese sauce, and dinner rolls. And a few pie choices for desert.

For dinner tomorrow I'm doing lamb shanks done in a red wine with portabello mushrooms sauce, served with boiled small potatoes with butter, and fresh asparagus. We have Christmas cookies and other goodies for 'desert'. It is just the two of us - and the 4 cats, of course, so a turkey is just too much food.

We're having ham, mashed potatoes, some stove top stuffing (because we aren't having turkey so I can't make a real stuffing), green beans, yams, and pecan pie for dessert. But this won't be until Friday because my husband has to work out of town on Thursday. It's a lot different than I normally have for Christmas dinner, which for me is normally indistinguishable from Thanksgiving dinner. I was actually so surprised that people weren't having the same things because in my family we have 3 big turkey dinners a year; thanksgiving in Oct, Christmas in Dec, and Easter in the spring.

Tonight we had some easy to make chinese food. LOL

Nice. I plan on grilling some shrimp tomorrow.

I was cooking for up to 4 tomorrow and the wife just told me to invite up to 4 more. I just laughed at her. smile.png

Love lamb myself. I bought baby portobello's for my chicken marsala. Usually would use a cheap Marsala wine to cook with but splurged this time. Did look at asparagus myself but decided not this time.

Grew up also having the same foods for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Turkeys and hams and dressings and so on. Since I married though and it is just us and a guest or two I cook what my wife asks for. She used to do most of the cooking at first.

We have cherry, apple, blueberry, pumpkin and sugar pie (that's a french Canadian thing) pecan pie. I also have tons of other deserts, chips, and snack mixes. Today we are having ham, and a bunch of left overs from last night. But my family starts off with 7 of us so we need lots of food with my boys.

Sounds like what we had as I grew up. Excellent. I am about to go start the cooking. Never made an Italian soup before. Hope I cook it good enough to eat.

Italian suasage and Tortellini soup recipe I found. Slight variation such as when it said Zucchini I used yellow squash. I also substituted the white mushrooms for baby portobello's. Extra garlic. My wife added some cumin.

What kind of Italian soup did you make, Italian Wedding or Pasta e Fagioli ?
