Interesting that Putin should have to 'allow' them to get out of jail. One should presume that ina democracy [sic] there would be legislation that should have prevented one from being incarcerated for speaking one's mind.

The building of the Alaskan pipeline in conjunction with the arrival of more fuel efficient cats as a result of the 73 oil crisis had a lot to do with dropping oil prices. As you may know, with the introduction of the Alaskan pipeline, the surplus of fuel lead to the lower prices we saw in the 90s that lead us to the less fuel efficient cars being made in the 90s.

But you're right. The us foreign policies that played their hand in the downfall of the Soviet Union took decades to mature. And were only a part of the global economy, rampant corruption, overextended recourses, and poor leadership that ultimately let to the break up of the Soviet Union
