I wonder how many episodes of All in the Family or the Jeffersons would make it on today's television before all the sponsors pulled out?

You can have those questions answered by writing to the CEO and VP of programming at Me-TV. They live off of reruns, such as the two you mention, and many others.

I'm not talking about re-runs. I'd like to see someone put a NEW show on network TV today with the kind of racial undertones both of those shows had. George railing against his honky neighbor and Archie going off about the coloreds and the Jews. Never happen.

I'm continually amazed at how little people know about the actual business of television, yet feel free to opine on it as if they were industry insiders.

A&E wouldn't be doing this unless they stood to lose more from keeping the show on the air with Phil a part of it.

Everyone is replaceable on TV. Every show is replaceable. Networks plan for these things. A&E is not going under and Duck Dynasty will soon be forgotten, another briefly popular show.

MAven, as an industry insider, when you predicted they would *soon* be forgotten...... did you have a time frame on that?

It would appear you were dead wrong on this, but maybe you were agreeing with phil when he predicted (in the same GQ interview) that he doesn't expect more than a few more years out of the program.

When you wrote the above, what was your projected expiration date?

The very first overview sentence in the article sums it up: Network brass didn't think through next steps, or risk of strangling its golden goose

Those of you in this thread who seemed to think A&E knew what they were doing.. Well here is your chance to prove you can be swayed by the now beyond clear obvious no-doubt-about-it evidence to the contrary and admit you were wrong..

I would assume, the template had become so common place no one imagined a star would do anything but grovel and beg forgiveness.

I mean we have seen this go on for years now, some group on the Left gets offended and the offender falls to his knees.

Some predicted A&E would blink, but I didn't think they would.
