Hello,

I have a quick question about what is needed to return to the USA through Ukrainian Immigration check in Kiev. There was a similar post from someone about this exact situation a couple weeks ago.

1. Wife applied for AOS in her new married surname and was issued a AP card in such name.

2. Wife's international passport is still in her maiden name.

We called the Ukrainian Emabassy here in the states and the said we will need an APOSTILLE copy of our marriage certificate to show the border guard in Kiev for them to allow her through. Is this true or do we just need a certified copy of the original marriage certificate issued after we were married? It takes 4-6 weeks to recieve an apostille copy from the state and we are traveling in less than a week.

Please help

Joey

Russians and Ukranians seem to be big on the apostille for documents.

On our trips to and from Russia, my wife's green card was in her new married name and her Russian passport was in her maiden name. We brought the certified copy of the marriage certificate and never had any problems. In fact the border guard in Russia did not even care. It was the airline that was interested to see the documents to be sure that she could enter the US without any issue.

Hopefully others will share their experience.

Thank you for your quick reply. I assumed it wouldn't be an issue, until we contacted the embassy and they said we needed it. I understand we would need it if we were trying to use it as an official document to change her name on her passport(s) (or some other official capacity) but not just for them to verify if she can return to the US.

Thank you
