Saddam 'wins 100% of vote'

Iraqi officials say President Saddam Hussein has won 100% backing in a referendum on whether he should rule for another seven years.

There were 11,445,638 eligible voters - and every one of them voted for the president, according to Izzat Ibrahim, Vice-Chairman of Iraq's Revolutionary Command Council.

The government insists the count was fair and accurate.

He needs someone to stand up to him and support opposition to him. Obama will not. we used to have President's that did that...and they had help from other leaders...like Margaret Thatcher. Leaders than made the dictators back down and kicked the legs out from under the Soviet Union without a shot being fired. More's the pity.

Now, our impotent President continually adjusts his "landmark" healthcare plan to the exclusion of anything else. While he fiddles, Putin bends him over and plays butt pirate (pardon the homosexual reference, Vlad)

But to follow on your comment...Obama shakes hands with the Castros, tells Kim "we are watching you!" and threatens to ...have a meeting. We lose our healthcare and Iran keeps its enriched uranium and centrifuges. Syria gasses its own citizens and Obama runs when Putin says "hands off!"

Putin nationalises the media, introduces new intercntinental ballostic missiles, mobilizes arctic military forces which have stood down since 1992, orders new refueling aircraft and hundreds of thousands of new rilfes, wool coats and sheepskin "ushankas" (hats) and his most likely opponent for the next election says he will probably "drop out of the race"

Something else to point out is that Putin has become increasingly closely tied to the Orthodox Church. This may be a clever difference in his new Soviet Union...embrace the church rather than ban the church. The ban on religion never did anything to endear the government to the people. The former Tsarist Russia was very religious, with religion virtually contolling the government to the final extreme of a Keeska Tsar and Rasputin...the evil Orthodox Monk that virtually was his puppet master...or at least controlled his wife...who controlled HIM
