Hey guys,

I had my medical exam today but haven't made an appointment to collect the results yet. I was browsing the net today when someone mentioned that the K1 visa expiry is 6 month after medical appointment and this is a dreadful news because I wanted the visa to be processed as late as possible so that I'm able to finish my Master's degree (will take about another 8 months to finish).

I thought I'll get all the paperwork done (medical, police check etc) now and then take some time to submit them all so that I can finish my studies but looks like I made a huge mistake. I was under the impression that the visa validity is 6 months after visa issue date.

Now my question is will the hospital forward my results to the embassy after I make an appointment with them to collect the results or do you guys think they'll forward the results right away given the fact that I had my medical exam today?

Is there any other way I can extend the processing? My fiance and I filed the petition in September and received the NOA2 in November which was completely unexpected!

It usually takes a couple days for the clinic/hospital to forward the results. If you've just had it today and you want them to hold the results, try contacting them and explaining your situation. Just remember that the validity of your visa will still be tied to the date you had your medical (more specifically the date you had your x-ray) and not the date it is forwarded by the hospital/clinic. I think you might be able to either re-do (and pay for) the whole medical or the x-ray (which is good for 6 months) if you needed to extend the validity of the visa, but I would contact the embassy to check if this is possible.

From what I've read, you're interviewing in Riyadh? It looks like you won't be scheduled for an interview until you send in the items below (effectively placing your application "on hold" until you're ready). Just be mindful that your NOA2 is renewable in periods of 4 months up to a year, so don't delay too long. Might be useful to drop the embassy a note telling them that you still wish to pursue the K1 visa but will send in the required forms in x number of months due to xx reason, so they are aware you still intend to go through with it.

When you have obtained all of the items which apply to you as noted above, you must mail in the provided Notification of Applicant Readiness form DS-2001, DS-160 confirmation barcode and 1 photograph (5cmX5cm with background) page with a copy of your passport to:
