This is something I find hard to understand. Most people would criticise the people who are actually intolerant (being anti gay is most definitely intolerant), not conveniently ignore that to lay the blame at the door of people who respond to it. Weird.

Tired of being accused of bullying women, gays and racial minorities, social conservatives have begun making the case that they themselves are an oppressed class. Its most obvious with the supposed War on Christmas, a hyperbolic invention (war?) that presupposes that liberals are trying to take down the celebration.

Catch that? The intolerants are the network executives who suspended Robertson for intolerance.

I am certainly not a Conservative and I can't defend what Phil Robertson said, nor do I agree with his comments, but I think there is an element of intolerance in the action taken by A & E.

It is sad that he feels the bigotry he expressed, and even sad that there are any others of like mind. But he expressed his own opinion and it was hardly earth shattering or surprising that he has a bigoted opinion of gays.

I don't see why. I think most employers would take action against an employee who expresses bigoted views. How many employers have a social media policy, for example?

What is 'anti gay'? The reality is some people are gay, it's not a choice, it's how they are born. They grow up attracted to people of the same sex, not the opposite sex. It's nearly 2014, why should policy be driven by people who's only response to male gay sex (and let's not kid ourselves, most homophobes are men who are revolted by the idea of man on man sex, these same people fantasize wildly about woman on woman sex and would gladly include that in their sexual experiences) is disgust? It's not a threat to anything, it has always gone on and it should not have any legal consequences.

People can say and do what they want, but their actions always have consequences. He wanted to be a TV star, he has to roll over for the network execs. They own him. No one forced him to be rich and famous.
