I wouldn't be too worried about catching something from petting/touching her, even if she hasn't been vaccinated. A little flea comb would be a good investment though. If she doesn't have fleas and isn't foaming at the mouth, I think it'll be okay to pet her a little bit

If she lets you handle her, scoop her up, put her in a carrier and take her to the vet asap. Getting the vacs twice won't hurt her, and you'll probably want to get her fixed as soon as you can (unless you want more little Mimis around). She'll forgive you for it We took in a stray kitten over the summer and I was worried that taking him to the vet would ruin everything we'd worked towards(as far as him being scared and not wanting to be touched), but it was fine, he came home and promptly slept for the rest of the day. When you do take her to the vet, make sure to mention that she's a stray, they'll usually give you a discount!

thanks guys I just fed her, she was so cute... I just sat there watching her eat then afterwards she came over to me. She always rubs herself against my legs...which I just read today means she's marking me as her 'territory'

then i put out my hand hand she put her face in it!!! I guess she wanted me to rub under her chin or summat....awww so cute. Then she rolled over and let me pet her stomach

Yup, she is scenting you. A cat's scent glands are around their faces and near their bums. You could try getting some little treats to see if she'll take them out of your hand at some point too.

I would crack up if Mimi was a boy! Although Chas' friends named their cat Phoebe, only to find out later that she was a boy.

I read this once, Lisa. The back end of a girl cat looks like an upside down exclamation mark and a boy looks like a semi-colon. When they are really small.

The nuts are right under his little butt-hole (indelicate I know but hey you asked).

PS - We've never fed any of our cats canned food.

Closest bet is get a vet to take a look. Unless you can somehow manage to hold him/her and get a peek at what those pictures are describing.

We haven't gotten there yet to where I would feel comfy brushing her Until I can take her to the vet, I'm trying to limit our contact since she's a stray and may not have been vaccinated.

She could be a runaway who's had all her jabs, but there is no collar, she's here all day and all night long, and I have asked around in the neighborhood and no one knows anything :/ If I ever do get her to a vet, is there anyway the vet could test if she's had her jabs? I'm not sure what a double dose might do :/

Lisa, cats are not prone to having deseases are dogs are, and in Brasil the only trully required vaccine a cat must have is rabies shot. Once a year. And giving them medicine for parasites once a year as well. I've had cats my entire life and that's all we did and no one ever got sick 'cus of a cat. So I think it's pretty safe to take her to the vet and get her a rabies shot.

EDIT: Btw, in determining a cat's gender, when they're young it can be hard, since the male cat has no apparent testicles, but wait a month or two and you can give a little squeeze at their little lumps to see if they have a little ####### or not.

Yeah, our vet told us that canned food is a big no-no. We've been feeding ours Science diet dry kitten mix. He loves that stuff. And his fur has been so so much shinier than it already was after we switched from Purina to SD.

He's a little spoiled brat but he's my little spoiled brat. ^.^

I feed my cats the Whiskas dried food with the nuggets, they love the nuggets so you can't let them trick you by eating the nuggets and leave the rest of the food on their bowls, and then they complain that you didn't replace it. I found a solution when a cheaper brand released a nugget only dry food so I buy a bag of that and mix in the Whiskas, that way they have TONS of nuggets in their food.

Since I have multiple cats we just put the food when the bowl is empty, one my cats eats like it's his last meal, and I have another that's more polite and eats less, although she's crazy about canned foods (which we don't buy too often since they're expensive in Brazil). She likes to hunt birds so she gets fresh meat at least twice a week (she's a good hunter).
