http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/12/16/despite-headlines-chicago-crime-at-lowest-levels-in-decades/

As with EVERY OTHER state that has implemented "shall issue" concealed carry, the forced implementation of concealed carry in Chicago and Illinois has resulted in drastically reduced crime.

A year ago the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that IL was violating people's rights in not issuing concealed carry licenses on a "shall issue" basis and immediately declared that the state must recognize CC permits of other states and implement its own CC system by June 9, 2013. Since December of last year, ILL ewsidents have been carrying concealed handguns, since July they have been able to get a permit from their own state. Crime fell like a stone as people became able to defend themselves and criminals no longer had a "gun free zone" to operate in.

If IL follows the pattern set by 45 other states, the crime rate will continue to fall as more people are issued CC permits. We will check in next year and see how many more lives have been saved.

After a year, crime has dropped to the lowest level since 1973.

Dozens of people lives have been saved...most of them young black men and women, the people most at risk for crime. There were 90 LESS homicides in Chicago this year and 124 LESS incidents of shootings than 2012. Statewide the crime rate also fell. It is also consistent with the results in other states that minorities and women see the largest benefit from CC crime reductions.

And even if Y'all don't care, I am VERY happy to see less women and young black men being killed in Chicago. I look forward to even less being killed next year.

Even if it saves just 90 lives....it is worth it.

What an idiotic argument, Gary. Conceal carry lowers the crime rate? No. It must be the mere anticipation of concealed carried guns that drops the crime rate. Can't be the actual concealed carried guns. Why? Because, well, they there are no concealed carry permits issued yet. It's close but they are not issued yet.

Beginning in 2014, legal gun owners will be allowed to carry weapons with them in the state of Illinois.

That's your first fail.

Now consider that the mere anticipation of a law that wouldn't even been introduced for another 20+ years has managed to reduce crime rates since 1990. That's some trick.

So that's your second fail. Wanna go for three?

wrong again.

Thousands of IL residentw began carrying concealed the day the order was issued. The order (and the new law) recognize CC permits issued by other states, Thousands of IL residents already had CC permits from other states and classes for the issuance of non-resident permits for other stats filled up immediately.

Next year, when even more CC permits are issued, the crime rate wll fall even further.

Sorry that it disappoints you to have less young black men killed.

Both my brother and my oldest son began carrying concealed handguns in IL immediately after the court ruling. One with a Florida license, the other with a Utah license

Not to mention that EVERY state surrounding IL already has CC and the permits from ALL those states (WI IN KY MO IA) are all valid and accepted in IL. Consider that Chicago has hundreds of thousands of commuters from WI and IN every day. There are thousands of IL residents with MO permits around St Louis, and thousands more in the Quad Cities area. No, Mr. Big Dog, people in IL have been carrying concealed for a full year now. MORE will be carrying in 2014

The results are also consistent with 45 other states that have implemented CC in the past 30 years. Why would IL be different?

Next goal is national reciprocity. I had hoped to get it with this ruling.

Had IL challanged the ruling of the 7th Circuit, it would have gone to the SCOTUS who have ruled on favor of gun rights previously. That WAS actually the goal. To FORCE IL to recognize rights AND to force ALL states to recognize CC licenses of other states (the way the recognize driver's licenses) IL received huge pressure from CA, MA, NJ, NY and HI...the only states left without "shall issue" carry. Those states still use the racially discriminatory "may issue" system.

IL was the only state in the jurisdiction of the 7th Circuit that did not already recognize CC from other states. In other words, left alone the 7th Circuit ruling applies ONLY to IL. If it is challenged and lost at the SCOTUS level, ALL 50 states have mandated CC and reciprocity. Although Rahm Emanuel objected to the ruling, he was more or less told to "fall on his sword" and STFU!

Oh, well, Next case will do the trick. Then I will buy a plane ticket, board the plane with my handgun in checked baggage, fly to California and go shopping with my legal concealed handgun in "Patriot's" home city. rofl.gif

Since VT does not require CC licenses, I have one from each FL and UT. This allows me to carry virtually anywhere in the USA

Okay, so you did want to go for a third fail And you delivered the fail like no other could.

Fact: The crime rate has been falling since 1990. Fact: That means that the crime rate has been on a downward trajectory for almost a quarter century before the law you want to credit has become law and almost a quarter century before the state actually starts issuing conceled carry licenses which thus far it has not issued. Fact: Your non-IL permit is no good in IL. The NRA-ILA agrees with me on this one. They summarized for IL as follows:

Concealed Carry Licensing:

  • Five-year concealed carry permits will be issued to Illinois residents at least 21 years of age with a valid FOID card 90 days after a qualified application is submitted.
  • Illinois will not recognize carry licenses or permits from other states at this time;
