That is a good advise!

Actually I already have both our birth certificates, our marriage certificate and my divorce degree translated and ready.

I also already filled the NVC forms, ready to be printed and signed and I have my tax transcripts ready for the last three years

Only forms left are police and court certificates since they expire in 6 months (at least the police certificate does).

Good luck everybody

Excellent preparation! As odd as it may sound it seems the NOA-2 sneaks up on people and they spend more time preparing things for NVC that should have been ready by the time the USCIS phase passes. We were caught a bit flat-footed. As it turned out it took just over two months to go from USCIS to NVC so the wait on my wife's police check didn't slow things down. That is, after we relented and paid the "admin fee" at the justice department.

Our NOA-1 date was 22 January, NOA-2 27 May, and interview on 28 January. This is about what I expected - for CR-1 petitions this is probably the best time frame to expect. Anything faster...pleasant surprise.

Best of luck!

Do you know about the timeline feature here on VisaJourney? You should fill it out because it will help others answer your questions as well.

Here is a link that shows petitions for the NBC:

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/monthly_filers.php?form=2&visa=3&scenter=4&option=3&sortby=2

In between the NOA1 and NOA2, it is possible that you can get an RFE (Request for Evidence), which means someone is working your petition and they need more information to complete it. You may also be transferred to another service center, as many are transferred to help with the delay in processing (you mentioned your petition is at the NBC).

Right now, based on what I've been "studying" here on the forum, I estimate that my entire process will be completed by March or April 2014, and I filed in July of this year.

I filed in March of this year, and I'm hoping that the entire process will be complete by about the same time.

You could, as already advised, start reading up on the next stage.

A few good starting places are:

NVC threads such as

The NVC stage forums:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/468369-nvc-filers-december-2013/page-33

Other:

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/How_Do_I_Bring_My_Spouse_%28Husband_or_Wife%29_to_Live_in_the_United_States%3F

And just read, read, read... all related topics you can find over the next many months while you wait. The people here sharing their experience have much information to share and a lot of support to provide when the wait seem unbearable.

"If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you."

My "humble opinion" is that you will not be finished this time next year, give or take a month or so! Your NOA 2 will take 10-12 months, then NVC.,.,.,just read, learn all you can about the process, on this site!

IF, I may ask.,.,.,.,why did you go the I-130, instead of the K-1 visa, which is "usually done in less than 8 months.,.,..,.,.?????????????????

I see so many people on this site going through the I-130, because they do not know that an K-1 visa is sometimes, 1/2 the time!!!

Ok maybe I am confused, but we sent in the packet. Received the Form I-797 and email, which I think is NOA-1 if I'm not wrong.

We havent heard anything more in 2 months and 21 days. I keep checking online and the case status says Initial Review.

Are you saying it will be another 4 months before we hear anything and have to send in more papers? I hope not. I checked the processing times between National Benefits Center and Peru and minimum time is 5 months to Interview and Average time is 8 months.

What do you guys think?

I think that you're being really optimistic and it's a good thing. Continue being optimistic and you may be one of the lucky ones, but the majority of cases will usually take up to a year from start to ending. I filed our petition back in early January of this year and we finally got our interview date which is January 9, 2014. A whole year!! Hopefully yours wont take as long as ours, but you should be ready to sit in for the long run. There are still people who started this journey the same time as us and are still waiting for their NOA2.

Anyways stay positive and stay optimistic. Best of luck to the both of you on this journey..

I see so many people on this site going through the I-130, because they do not know that an K-1 visa is sometimes, 1/2 the time!!!

Or because it's not even an option, maybe? Or perhaps because the CR visa is superior to the K1? (You don't have to adjust status, etc. Just have to remove conditions after 2 years of marriage.) Or because the IR/CR visas *weren't* taking that much longer when they (generic they) filed? Or because they just really wanted to be married? I can think of a bunch of reasons why they would go the IR/CR route instead of the K1.

We are actually hoping that they will clear this backlog and get back to their processing goal of 5 months. But the processing numbers that they just put out don't suggest that's going to happen any time soon. We'll have to wait for next month's release to see if it's improved enough to make an impact.

I predict that if there is, it's almost entirely due to the CSC.
