Earlier I predicted that European countries would begin to restrict Abortions ... or face the consequences.

Spain whose birth rate is so low experts predict, recover is not possible is now moving in that direction.

-------------------------------------------------------

Spain gov't approves new restrictive abortion law

MADRID - Spain's conservative government on Friday approved tight restrictions on abortion, allowing the practice only in the case of rape or when there is a serious health risk to the mother or fetus.

The previous government made abortion widely legal before the 14th week only three years ago. But the ruling Popular Party has long sided with the Roman Catholic Church on moral and social issues and made changing the law one of its main promises in the 2011 vote that brought it to power.

Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon said the change was necessary to provide greater protection for both women and the unborn.

"What the government understands is that in the dramatic circumstances of an abortion the woman is not guilty. The woman is always the victim," he said.

The bill has been vigorously opposed by most opposition parties and women's groups, who see it as an attack on women's rights and a step backward compared to Spain's neighbors in Europe. The legislation must still be approved by parliament, but the Popular Party's large majority means it is almost certain to pass.

What's the unemployment rate for young Spaniards Danno? Any idea???

Off the top of my head I don't know, but I know someone from there well and I hear it is high, as is the crime rate.

I really don't understand how you can equate shrinking populations with abortion laws. It simply makes no sense at all. That the Spanish population is Catholic should lead you to the conclusion that that is the reason the Government is considering revising the laws on abortion not some bizarre idea that such revisions will solve economic issues. The fact that the Spanish economy is struggling right now and has extremely high unemployment in under 30's should also tell you that simply having more babies is not some magic economic fix. The under 30's are being forced to move to other EU countries to find any kind of employment, how does having more babies fix that? Moreover, how does adjusting abortion laws have any positive effect on increasing birth rates in any measurable way? That would mean that the majority of pregnancies are currently being aborted in Spain. Is that really what you think is happening?

In Danno-logic, a country in Europe = 's countries in Europe. The Danno-logic is also ludicrous as to the reason why one country, largely Catholic Spain, would do such a thing.

- I predicted it will happen.

-I never made any claims that it would or would not solve anything.

-I made no link between the need to end the culture of suicide to survive and economics.

The need to end the culture of suicide? What 'culture of suicide'? What are the consequences for European cultures of not reversing current abortion laws? Abortion laws have very little effect on current birth rates in European countries, you do know that don't you?

Hmm now why would a conservative government in a mainly catholic country try to infringe on abortion rights? It's really such a strange surprise. Must be some statistical anomoly.

First comes the austerity, which sends into a coma an already crippled economy, now all those unemployed women don't have reproductive choices and if they choose to keep the baby they won't be entitled to any social services. F____ing Brilliant. No matter, Spaniards can still travel to the rest of the EU for abortions, if they have the money.

-Actually, they do have reproductive choices, what they are loosing are third level back up plans for when they failed to make proper choices.

-They can travel to stop the development of their unborn. At least for now they can. That possibility will be diminishing as well.

Abortion is not a major issue in Europe. There is not an epidemic of abortions in Europe, Abortions are not the reason for low birth rates. You are making no sense at all.

Yay, #######-shaming!

Also, where do you see in Europe that countries are actually reining in abortion rights for women? Not some right-wing parliamentarian raising the issue, but actual legislation that has been tabled and looks likely to be passed?

Not making any sense is what Danno does best. In fact, it's the only thing he does well at all.

You're right, of course, that abortion is not the reason for low birth rates in Europe. Maybe Danno can figure out at some point what actually drives low birth rates. No, I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Because what Spanish women need are sexist, small minded American men judging them on their life choices.

Brilliant.

Let me get this right.... I make an observation and I am the bad guy, the woman who purges her offspring from her womb, bit by bit is the hero.

Ok, I'll be the bad guy.
