Hey, a thread about Chris Christie's New Jersey schools. The good conservative that he is, he showed them teachers years ago when he came into office, didn't he? So, how are them schools doing? Better, yes?

All Chris Christie proved was that spending excessive amounts of money on groups who do not care about themselves, their families, or their communities does not make a single bit of difference to their outcome.

On spending per student:

Coming in at No. 6 statewide and first locally among K-12s was Camden, at $23,770 per student counting the new items - a 4 percent increase over 2008-09.

In Camden, total per-student spending minus the added costs included this year - the "budgetary per-pupil cost" - was $19,118.

On other end of the spending spectrum, Monroe Township in Gloucester County was the lowest at $14,066 per student, a 3 percent decrease from the year before. A few notches up the list was academically high-performing Haddonfield, at $14,929 per student.

Statewide, seventh-through-12th-grade districts, or high school districts, averaged $19,882 per pupil. The two local districts that exceeded that were Gloucester's Gateway Regional at $23,385, a 14 percent increase over the previous year, and Lenape Regional at $20,345, 3 percent higher than the year before. All of the totals were calculated with the new items.

Who's they? While voting on legislation is part of the job of elected politicians, it's not the be all and end all of the job. More than that, there is no suggestion from the post I quoted from that that was in fact what was being referred to. Still, if that's your interpretation of the post, my answer remains, no one is paid simply for voting, it's not a career.

If you put that money in an investment fund at 2% every year instead of sending them to a worthless k-12 school they would each have $350,000 in the bank at age 18 instead of what they have, which is zero dollars and about the same educational attainment as not having attended school at all.

A better program would have them working as an apprentice at something so they not only have the 350 grand but also a marketable skill along with having earned their own income for many years. This country seems to worship public schools and have the idea that all of us have to do it no matter how stupid and backwards the outcome.
