Hi! I've stumbled across this forum because I've been madly searching for some sort of solution to my current situation. Here's the relevant details and my questions:

ME: 28 year old veterinarian, from the USA
HIM: 30 year old veterinarian, from New Zealand

I lived in NZ for 5.5 years under a student visa; we met there and have been together for 3 years. We got engaged just last month on Nov 2nd (he came to visit for a month). The majority of our relationship was long-distance; he graduated 3 years ahead of me, so he was living 6 hours away working while I finished vet school. We visited lots, went on holidays together, and we spent every vacation/weekend we could together.

I graduated vet school a year ago. We spent 3 months in NZ (me having a break, him wrapping up work) before we came to the US for 3 months (mostly a holiday/ trying to sort out work options). We researched moving to the UK but it was damn near impossible for me to get a job as veterinarians are no longer on the National Shortage Occupation list in the UK.

So. He has a Youth Mobility visa to the UK and is there currently, trying to get his paperwork processed to possibly start temp work there. However, we're both extremely sick of being in separate countries. I can't go to the UK as on add-on to his Youth Mobility visa, so far as I understand, so I'm a bit stuck in the US.

I am wondering how this could all possibly work, and my questions (right now I feel like I have a million of them) are mostly this:

Can we file any sort of visa to get him to the US if he is currently in the UK under a Youth Mobility visa? (Or would he have to go back to NZ to file anything)
Would we be better off filing a fiance visa or a spousal? From what I understand fiance visa is possibly faster?
Does anyone have experience with NZ/USA visa filing and could tell me how long it took/is taking for them?

I'm starting to wonder if it would be easier for both of us to go back to NZ as at least I was accepted there once (granted, only under Student visa). I'm just really feeling rather hopeless and I'm hoping someone can maybe give me some answers or advice.

Thanks in advance everyone

You have a few choices, but first you have to decide if you want to get married or not. Then decide where you want to live.

If you BOTH decide to live in the USA, then you can go on the fiance or spousal visa route. Either way you'll end up married or be married beforehand. Read the pros and cons in the comparison chart. One allows the beneficiary to work right away but you have to be married first. The other costs more but generally is faster, but the beneficiary waits about 3 months before they can even try to work. It can take some time to figure out what you guys want to do.

Marry him fule spousal visa & in the meantime

U can visit him, going back to NZ without PR

will just have U going in circles, or U can file K1

and when he gets to the US U marry in 90 days

but he wont be able to work right away..a few mths

He will interview in his own country or where he

has PR but the program he's on in the UK will not

affect you petitioning him.
