I watched the show and was a little disappointed that they didn't go into any of the details about applying for and getting the K-1 visa - they just picked up at the time of the visa being issued and the foreign partner coming to the US. It is obvious that they are not really interested in the immigration process aspect, but are going for the 'emotional' drama of what it is like to have to move to a foreign country and get married in 90 days while you are trying to adjust to all of the changes. It has the potential to be an interesting show but I think they are missing a real opportunity by focusing on the relationship adjustments aspect of the process only. Of course, that is probably what hooks in viewers, though, who couldn't care less about medicals and security checks and interviews when there is a nice, juicy conflict or potential discord in a love relationship brewing!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I've regretted my decision, but I just re-watched the show. And noticed something. I believe Mike and Aziza. Mike said that he had to re-finance his home in order to sponsor her. Again, not familiar with the K-1 visa, but don't you have to prove that you have a certain amount of assets and income? I know that the K-1 is slightly more expensive than the one that my husband has (the IR-1) but, I didn't know that it was so much a struggle that you would need to do that!

I love my husband (and was jobless/underpaid for much of the process), but I'll be damned if I went to the loan officer for him!

Interesting point brought up by someone at the televisionwithoutpity forums: The Mormon guy was 19 and Paola was 11 when they met.

I didn't know he re-financed his home to sponsor her. I thought it was for the trips there and back and maybe the cost of the visa process.

That is what I understood too.. He is employed so I imagine he used his income to qualify... But we all know that 125% of poverty hardly allows for multiple trips and the cost of the visa process on top of paying for day to day life...

Maybe my interpretation of what he said is off. He said something to the effect of "I refinanced my house to make it all happen." I took that to mean "all" equals immigration expenses. Meh, either way, I hope they are living happily now. That's an awfully big sacrifice to make.

I came to another realization about this show. They chose couples who had seen one another once or twice for a few weeks at a time then kept their relationships up through internet. I wonder why they are playing that angle.

Has anyone heard about TLC's new reality tv show '90-Day-Fiancé(e)' ?

I have been trying to watch it online but don't seem to find any 'viewable' links online.. Does anyone have a good website or link I could watch it on?

To be honest, I'm don't really like the subject.. it seems like they take it pretty easy, getting a chance to have a k1 visa and then deciding wether to get married or not... mmh I know people can be different in the every day life but you don't go through all the troubles of a K1 visa to end up giving up.. but that's just my opinion..

Well, not us specifically, but couples who have united on a K-1 and have 90 days to prepare for marriage.

http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/90-day-fiance/about.htm

Watched the first episode earlier today. In some cases they're people who've only spend 6 days to 2 weeks together physically.

Be interesting to see how it plays out.

November 14th, 2013: She's here!

December 12th, 2013: Picked up marriage license.

December 14th, 2013: Wedding

One can't (always) guess what has already been discussed ... I created a new topic about it and got transfered to this one.

I had no idea there was already a topic about it, I don't know this page as well as I would Facebook for example.

What you wrote is just mean, really.

Actually, there's a search function at the top of the page where you can search and see if topics are already being discussed. I tend not to like the site's search function though.... Google had me well trained. So, I just go to Google's omnibox and type in: "xyz topic" site:visajourney.com and there I can see that this topic has/hasn't been started.

Oh man! I was hoping that this show's foolishness didn't spawn from this site!

A Question to the USCs reading this -

how do you feel about a Canadian Production Company muckraking about the K-1 visa couples?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
