Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Ok, so the last time I remember Girl Scouts selling cookies at our house (Canada), we got the box with the chocolate creme sandwich and vanilla creme sandwich cookies (loved the vanilla!). I don't recognize these new-fangled cookies of which you speak.....

here you can find some of the different kinds of Girl Scout cookies.... i don't see Samoas on the list though  unless they go by a different name... ok figured it out, they are otherwise known as Caramel de lites

Hmm weird, my box says Samoas

We all know what the best kind of Girl Scout cookies are, but we can't agree on what to call them. There seem to be many theories on why there are two different names.

Myths: (1) East Coast v. West Coast (not true, I've eaten both cookies on the west coast);

(2) Caramel deLites replaced Samoas for a more politically correct name (not true (as far as I can tell), I don't know why it wouldn't be politically correct to name a cookie after an island. Furthermore, I can't find any evidence that that's where the name came from. Even the Assistant Director of the Washington D.C. Girl Scout Council doesn't know why they're called Samoas.

The reason they have two different names is because they come from two different manufacturers: Little Brownie and ABC/Interbake. Each Girl Scout Council selects their own manufacturer, so it's perfectly conceivable to see both types of cookies in the same national region.

Samoas v. Caramel deLites

There are a couple of Girl Scout Cookies that are known by different names depending on the bakery they come from....

Samoas or Caramel deLites:

This is one of the only cookies in the group that has differences depending on the bakery. The reason there are two names is because while similar, the cookies have some differences. Samoas are made by Little Brownie Bakers. They are circular, with an orange colour and are thicker from top to bottom; usually they also contain more caramel per coconut. The Caramel deLites, made by ABC Bakers, are actually hexagonal, with a more yellowish tinge, and a more of the biscuit comes through in the flavour because of the lower caramel content. Overall they are both very popular, and most people never notice the differences. Both varieties come in purple boxes.

Tagalongs, or Peanut Butter Patties or Hoedowns:

These round cookies with a cookie center are covered with chocolate, having under their swollen chocolate surface an inner layer of peanut butter, much like the marshmallow under the chocolate surface in Mallomars. These cookies come in a red box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Tagalongs while ABC Bakers calls them Peanut Butter Patties.

Do-si-dos or Peanut Butter Sandwiches or Savannahs:

A sandwich cookie. The round, bumpy perforated oatmeal cookie top and bottom surround a peanut butter-flavored layer inside. Savannahs were made by Burry (now out of business) and were named after Savannah, Georgia, where founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout troop meeting in 1912. These cookies come in an orange box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Do-si-dos while ABC Bakers calls them Peanut Butter Sandwiches.

Trefoils or Classic Shortbread:

These shortbread cookies are shaped like the Girl Scout Trefoil design. Scot Teas were a similar, lighter sugar cookie made by the now defunct Burry. The first Girl Scout cookie recipe was a sugar cookie. These cookies come in a blue box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Trefoils while ABC Bakers calls them Classic Shortbread.

I've resisted them so far this year, hoping I can hold out till the end of crack, whoops, I mean cookie selling season!

I did however buy a tub of cookie dough from some annoyingly cute elementary school girls the other day... that went pretty quick

I broke with tradition and tried some of the new ones this time. All y'all were smart to avoid:

The Cafe Cookie. Described to me as a brown sugar thin cookie, I optimistically ordered 2 boxes. I've got One and a half left for the first taker.

All Abouts: More false advertising! If that's what they call 'shortbread' I want to know 'in what language?' because I was expecting traditional shortbread ala Trefoils.

The Samoas were the only disappearing box this year. Well, I did put a bit of a dent in the Lemon Coolers last night...

I may have cured the addiction.
