One has to wonder how many years a person actually has to give it to get over the change. Sometimes I don't think my wife will ever totally get over moving to the USA. You'd think a person from a third world country would be ecstatic to move to a first world country, but its often not the case.

I think it might be more a male vs. female thing. It seems to me that women are more apt to get homesick.

Well let me help try to paint a picture I don't think some get. I might offend but I need to make it plain. Like I tell them in my Nigerian groups when these women don't get why their husbands can't adjust. Immigramts are coming from a country where they are the majority. Not that everyone looks like them but everyone looks like them feel me.

This is WHITE AMERICA please don't be confused about that. Sure we have all races and nationalites here. but baby who runs this camp sure isn't Africa, India, Philippines. And its very very hard. You are leaving a culture that works in a certain way and thinks a certain way. Like Nigeria truly is like America of the 40's and mostly the 50's. How they view women, family and the like. You have very egocentric men who are raised women tolerate whatever they dish out. Now they are here with independent dominate women who in a word for many ain't going to LET no man tell them NOTHING. Well baby how the heck is that going to work.

I know for me being in Nigeria was a blessing for the first time I saw me everywhere. Well let me rephrase I saw black people everywhere and in the 7 months I was there only saw 4 whites and that was at the hotel and airport, Unfortunately they thought I was white. Whch hurt my feelings but still it was nice to be in the majority.

I don't really consider America to be white as in the typical European stereotype of white. It is very diverse here. My husband, who is very white, doesn't consider most people here to be...he calls us mutts (seriously I'm a mutt because my ancestors come from like 4 northeastern European countries - zomg!)! Purebred **$#*($&

So apparently you probably are a little mixed or more so than you think if they considered you white?

Gotta feel sorry for Nigerian women putting up with that. ranting33va.gif

OMG I thought you were white! Just kidding.

Just goes to show there's big differences between what people consider a race though. To them, you were not black enough to be one of them, you had too much white in you. Turn that around and in the USA our president is half white and people refer to him as black. I personally have never been able to look at him without seeing both.

Actually two things are what gets to my wife, we work too hard here (not having enough fun during work, plus too few holidays) and the second not having her family here. But it might also be true she always feels like she's different due to her race being different.

It really pisses me off that people don't realize that the president is as black as he is white!

The Dane agrees about the working too hard, and I know what it is like being different, even teachers used to comment that I wasn't Italian/Irish growing up. People are constantly asking the Dane about his ethnic origin, commenting on his height, and then discussing their 8th great grandmother who was Scandinavian. Poor guy.

Now you know I mean no disrespect. Oh who am I talking to be quiet.

And yes your diction takes you places. Notice with black folk how they always say "he or she is so well spoken". Colin Powell. Condi Rice. You never hear them say :"That Bill Gates is well spoken" or "Warren Buffet" Please

I get what you are saying. My cousin is half and raised in a white area and she is constantly getting comments and little things about her race and nationality, like people not understanding that she isn't American or African....gasp!

I need a place I can truly call our own. An apartment complex just isn't it, despite the pictures and our flags on the walls. I also need a degree of my own independence with my own car.

I hate apartments. I can not wait to buy our house.
