Doing good. My wife ran me ragged yesterday out buying a long list of food items we must have to ring in the new year. Failure to have everything in the list apparently will lead to disaster in our relationship. Personally I know telling her its all a silly superstition will definitely lead to the disaster of one pissed off wife

Also, thank you to everyone who said nice words about our visa approval. Couldn't have one it without VJ. Yes, I am waiting almost the full six months from the medical to leave. Work was kind enough to grant me a "leave of absence" for 2 years, so that if circuit turns out to be a serial killer, and somehow I escape death, I can come back to my position. But, they will only let me go in May, hence, the waiting.

That makes sense. My wife is on an extended absence from her old work also. Even though we're not planning to move back to her country for another 10 years, her sister is saying when she goes back, she has to return to running their business again. Which is not something my wife wants to do again. I'm not sure where you plan to live, but it might be better to arrive when its warmed up a little here first. Its been a pretty cold winter for many parts this year.

Conversely, some husbands can hide expensive gifts, piles of money, et al. by the sink or stove with no fear of their discovery, sigh man.

After being in country for a bit over two years, my wife is going to give a try at baking something for the very first time. Yes its only corn bread, but its actually cooking something without using a fry pan or the grill. To be fair, I did teach her to bake chicken and she's done it a couple times, but she'd still prefer to use the grill, and this is actually a bake good she'll be attempting.

On Saturday, in a grand gesture of doing something definitely not Filipino, she got the idea of keeping the massive amounts of food she was cooking warm, by using the oven. I was surprised, as this was certainly a new thing she was doing on her own. After she loaded up the items she wished to keep warm, she then comes to me to ask how to set the oven to warm them. Maybe its been too long since she made baked chicken?

They do that from herring out of Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota. When I've been diving off the north shore there, there was a Norwegian with a bunk house we'd rent to stay at. Before the sun rose every day, he went out in his boat to net herring, which he sold to the local restaurants. The locals in many parts of the state also believe the Vikings were in Minnesota before Columbus discovered America.

Of course we wok the dog, we don't want her peeing in the house!

My wife called a wok a fry pan when I first met her. She used one a lot back home, but has never used one here in the USA. I asked her if she wanted one, but she prefers using more dedicated use pans. I think the wok is so much cheaper there, and can be multipurpose, so you don't need multiple pans. Here there's more than enough frying pans, kettles, and sauce pans to do everything she wants, so she has no desire to return to using a wok. I have a very nice stainless steel set of pans, which were there for her to use when she arrived.

About a 35 pound carp once. Had to catch that sucker from an angle from behind it, otherwise the spear would just bounce off the scales. I'm usually only running one band on my spear gun, as I'm not usually going for big stuff.

People getting very snarky and back and forth. I swear the MODS dop more time outs and bans than anything.

A filipina friend of a filipina friend was trying to bring a carp someone caught in the Mississippi river and gave to her, to a get together a bunch of us were having. You're not supposed to eat anything out of the Mississippi river, let alone carp. Worse yet she wanted to cook it on my grill! I guess her husband finally forbid her from bringing the carp.

I no eat carp, and I even more no eat carp from the dang river.
