It's definitely a love or hate kind of place. I loved it until we moved in with hubby's family. Smaller town, less access to household necessities, less privacy, etc. Big cities will be our place of choice when we move back. smile.png

Move to Guayaquil, si man. Reach outside your front window to pick a banana, and they mug your hand, ouch man.

For such a small country, Ecu has stunning climate-differences, si man. In Cuenca (mountains), I was perfectly comfortable walking around in a long-sleeved shirt, whereas the natives were all bundled up like Eskimos, brrr man. Conversely, in Guayaquil (essentially coastal), I'd be outside for 15 minutes and be changing into my fourth sweatband, and the natives would be looking curiously at the silly gringo.

Mrs. T-B. is from a smallish town right on the edge of the Amazon, si man = sweatbands galore. Mosquitoes the size of small chickens (with bites that actively last for a month at least). Except for the highway between Cuenca & Guayaquil, the roads feature world-class potholes, bounce man -- many large enough to swallow a smaller South American country, ciao man.

Well the way you keep describing Ecuadorian men! Geez! Although now that I'm married that isn't so much an issue.

Oh, they're all about 5'5" tall and would be pushovers if anyone stood up to them. The chicas there are usually even smaller and (largely) still aren't culturally conditioned to stand up to poor treatment. I'm known and perceived as the "gringo monstro" (monster gringo), and they wouldn't mess with me, no man. Now, just think if the Great Dane were there...
