Got it! Your bill is only a hunnerd fiddy for the honor of training me, see man.

Gotta watch those cheap Gringos from Texas, they'll pull any scam. Don't make me call out my enforcer of my wife's loan sharking biddiness.

So I'm walking down our hallway with a very full and hot cup of tea in one hand and a hot bowl of oatmeal in another. I guess I was, despite being the first in the hallway, supposed to press myself to the wall so that the queen could pass (an action likely to lead to hot tea spillage) and now that I have not done so I'm disrespectful of her age and an inconsiderate swear word.

Oh, I so love living here.

It's a ripoff store, even with their ubiquitous "20% off one item" coupons. Go to the resale shops and find something even better at a fraction of retail price.

Why don't you get them ALL cut, huh man?

My thoughts on that store to.

I used to get my hair cut once every two years if I needed it or not. Now I've gotten even cheaper and my wife cuts it once a year. Who says getting married doesn't save a gringo a buck or two?

My wife's family isn't poor. Well Moma is poor, but the siblings are not. They grew up poor, but pulled themselves out of it with education and hard work. I'd guess they might be called middle middle class. But every little bit helps over there and many things are just gifts or special treats. My sister in law actually sends us care packages from the Philippines at her expense. Mainly dried fish, which we both love, Filipino candies, and things like some face cream my wife likes, which we don't have here. We might send more in total value, but scaled to the economies, we'd likely be ahead.

She's tested good actually on blood sugar. But we're also working on switching to brown rice now to, my mother also had diabetes. Brown rice is much slower digesting, and doesn't give the sugar spike white rice does. We tried a while ago, but neither of us could stand the taste of the brown rice we bought. We just found a good tasting brown rice which we both like. But brown rice doesn't really satisfy the rice addiction we both seem to have now. So every other day is white rice, until we get weaned off of it. We still have an almost full 50 lbs sack of it, so we've plenty of time to get used to brown rice.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that the wife's family was poor, just that ours was, relative to the rest of Britain that is.

Yeah, white rice is not that healthy. It isn't the worse food you can eat, but still. When I make rice here, it is mostly for the Dane's sake whilst I simultaneously make some soba noodles. Buckwheat is pretty good for you.

ick, i can't stomach brown rice. i'd rather go without any rice and substitute with whole wheat noodles/pasta/bread than try to eat brown rice.

Try Three Ladies sweet brown rice. I hated it, until we found that brand. White rice is horrible for developing type 2 diabetes. And given the amount of rice we eat, as my wife is Filipino, we really had to consider the consequences of all the rice we eat. I feel myself being hungrier with the switch though.

How dare you disrespect your elders! Don't you know they're one step closer to senility and the inability to watch what they're doing? The positive note, she won't remember it an hour from now.

Well the typical situation in Fil/Am relationships, is the immigrants family is poor, as most Filipinos are poor. They have a rather small middle class, mainly its haves and have nots there, with most being have nots. And even with their middle class, its generally one accident away from poverty.

I've always liked rice, but never ate anywhere near what I do now. My wife is so addicted to rice, she can hardly go a single meal without it. Hence the need to make some sort of changes for our overall health. We also stick to extra virgin olive oil, which I've finally found a place that has crush dates and test results on the olive oil they sell.
