In one of the threads about a Thai woman being smuggled in a suitcase, it quickly began to devolve into them all insulting fat people and treating us like we're not human or like we're beneath everyone else. And frankly between being treated like a frakking idiot and that, I'm just about ready to rip heads off.

I wouldn't read any threads over there and just don't worry about it.

haha

well, the house was built so my parents have their friends around and they are living there. of course they thought I will come back from Switzerland eventually and live with them which is why it is so big but as you pointed out...it is in the middle of nowhere. It works for them. Peace and quiet and a dog and some friends around and orchard.

One thing I know is that if it ever came down to selling it I am not sure I could do it just for the emotional connection. Especially since my dad planted a pear tree there and named it after me. The only thing he did that actually meant something or showed feeling. Good pears too smile.png

Maybe you should move back there at some point?

wow. I won't comment because people that do this don't deserve the commenting or even to be talked about. As my mom says "ignore the idiots with silence that is the best way".

Sorry it got you upset.

They're running out of smokers to beat over the head. So of course fat people are next. You know how many fat people that gives them to beat over the head in America?

It is becoming more common to do in America anyway. Some workplaces around here are going to charge more for obese employees to get insurance and I know some of them ban smoking by employees within 500 ft of the workplace, etc. Smoking here is like a social death nail, I don't know anyone who does it.

nah. I think I will move back to Europe for sure though. I have been somewhat looking into it lately. I wanna go back to Switzerland or Scotland or Germany or Italy or England or France or Sweden or Finland or Holland or something. This way I am at a safe distance from them since there is a lot of issues there but also can take care of them well enough.

So you advocate that people like me are subhuman? Thanks.

The subhumans are the ones always looking to blame and judge others.

I do not meant it that way... Sorry for your hurt feelings..

It is just that the people in the current topics thread often throw insults, bias around..

I've heard of companies that fire people who smoke, or won't hire them. I kind of curious on this new movement to ban people from using the e-cigarette. From what I heard, they're saying how do we know its not bad for you, so lets ban its use everywhere. Now I don't really know if there is any evidence e-smokes are bad like smoking, but the immediate move to ban on an assumption bothers me.

I also was saying to friends years ago when started banning smoking, even in outdoor locations, that food and the overweight would be their next target.

I can recommend Sweden - very immigrant friendly, pretty, good respect for women, etc.

They've banned E-Cigs on British buses. And I mean specifically - there was a blanket "No Smoking" ban anyway but they've now got stickers up on the bus specifically banning those as well. As far as in public places it's currently a case-by-case basis depending on the business policy or the manager's discretion. For example at a recent Christmas meal 2 people started using them and no-one batted an eyelid.

I am reminded of a poem from Martin Niemöller.

First they came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

"What's yours is mine!"

At least we aren't as bad as France http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2530026/Parisian-women-spill-beans-dangers-fat-female-French.html

I do think obesity is bad, obviously, and I do think it puts a strain on our medical system, just as smoking used to. I think cancer rates have decreased pretty well as a result of the decrease in smoking and earlier screenings.

I don't really know anything about e-cigarettes, also not popular here.
