My father was in the hospital a few weeks ago. Around thanksgiving...

My sister came from Philly to visit him. An aunt brought up a question. Does my father have a will? My sister said...."I don't need money, but I think my husbands family needs money"

Really? So her useless husbands useless parents should inherit some of my fathers money?

And my step mom? If my father goes, it's her money, isn't it?

What she didn't know....is that I have all that covered. I have the living trust, the power of atty. How retarded is my sis to not know that her brother....(you know, the guy with the law degree) Had this all covered?

My father, who was a class A jacka$$ his entire life to everyone, kept dangling inheritance over his kids to keep us in contact with him. I basically wrote the guy off because all he did was start fights and insult people all the time. My younger brother fell for it and lived with the constant verbal abuse for years. I didn't fall for it, and told him when he could be civil, we'd talk, but if not then don't bother calling. So my father wrote me out of his will, even making a big deal out of it in front of my brothers, showing the page where I had been excluded. When my father died, he left everything to his wife, as I would expect him to do actually. Apparently he never bothered to show my brother where he had also been written out of the will. My mother on the other hand who had absolutely nothing actually turned out to have a small insurance policy that gave a small amount to both my brother and I. I never ever expected that, and it gave us the money to pay for the last part of her funeral, and even a few bucks in our pockets.

Wow J, I'm (we're) sorry to learn of this. I sure hope that as time goes by. You guys will at least get used to each other. Because it doesn't even sound like that you're even at that stage. No less have a lasting relationship.

This is a good article. I always did admire Ben Franklin.

Hello King of Marklar, I am 100% Chinese.

So I understand the Asian culture of helping family. smile.png

But there should also a limit on how much one can do to help out. Some families are just purely leeches, take and take only, no giving back or even simple gratitude.

I should state that once the monster kid is here, there could be more troubles.

e.g, Comparisons between what your precious girl has and what the monster kid doesn't have (living conditions, toys, branded stuff, type of school to go to ..etc)

Jealousy, envy, tiff's guilt to her sister.

Hey, just make sure tiff doesn't secretly betrothed your girl to the monster kid, to keep your fortune within her family rofl.gif

My hubby is so lucky, he doesn't have in-laws problem innocent.gif

And she only needs to take them to West Virginia to do that. Or does Rhode Island allow that to?

I got in-laws problems, just my brother in-law's wife though. She was born and raised with the leech mentality. Husband (my brother in-law) sends home money to take care of the bills, and she spends it all on her sisters and herself, while not paying the bills. After a couple years of returning from his seamans job to find no money left and a bunch of debts, he's started sending the money to his sister to pay his bills and give an allowance to his wife. So now the wife borrows money from lenders who come looking for him when he gets back from sea. So he ends up broke all the time when he's back, then they eat all of Moma's food up, which we're the ones providing. Wish he'd get smart and kick that woman to the curb, but the guy loves her worthless butt. So we just keep hoping she'll one day get off her lazy butt and do something to contribute towards the family rather than leeching and pretending to be a VIP all the time.

I dont take medicines and what not. I think most things can be handled with life style changes etc. this is most likely anxiety stuff that will pass, it does not happen all the time anyways. My bladder is fine !!

Well, we had a talk that we always had - going over issues where I talk, he listens and instead of actually speaking to me about things - he decides to twist the truth to defend himself (which he doesn't have to do). Bottom line - he confessed that he is only supportive of me looking for jobs out of state ( as well as in state) because he is banking on me getting a job here but if I do get one out of state it will be an issue he will not be happy about and will give me trouble over it.

We again got to the children talk - he mentions it not directly on and off - hinting that he does not agree with us not having kids. Now, we went from me talking about it for a year and he saying he agrees with us not having kids (since he is in no position to have them and I have health issues) - to " I had no idea you did not want kids"...so I actually told him about all the emails I sent and the chats we had about it and he changed his story to "well, I thought you were joking (???)". So then I showed him email about how I said...."please know that I am not joking and it worries me (besides other things I said explaining my reasoning)" So then he said "well, since you moved here I will sacrifice myself with the kids thing"......It makes my head hurt. I don't need to have someone telling they are graciously sacrificing themselves for me because I moved here. I moved here because I believe we were in the same page and that when he said he was fine with moving out of state or not having kids he meant it......how can we even handle this.

and if i hear one more time just how he cannot wait till i got a job and have money and can buy him things and how everything I owned before we got married is his - I will scream.

Ok half rant over I am done. UGH.

When he has AP or the tarjeta verde, take him to border-town Mexico for some really professional, no-nonsense dental work. It'll be over before he has a chance to get scared, eek man.

Oh, he's had his tarjeta verde for a few months now, but quality care isn't the problem. Our dentist in Ecuador was a good friend who actually went to medical school in New York, and was quite good at her job - and was much cheaper than anything you'd find Stateside. He's just terrified of dentists in general for some reason.

1. Yes Doctor. Funny haven't had wine in a few days trying to lose some weight (lost 3 lbs so far since monday) and guess what.

2. (drum roll). Debbie finally after 5 years of contract work landed a permanent position. OMG with benefits. When the HR lady was rattling off all the benefits and said Vision and dental I swear tears came down.

Just think vacation, 401K stuff regular folk get to do. I am over the moon happy.

1. Woohoo, go girl! I'm right there with you trying to lose weight. I bought a cute dress during black Friday sales and am determined to look cute in it by summer. :)

2. Yay, congrats! So happy for you, Deb. :)

1. Had Mrs. T-B. tried what seems to be pervasive in some Asian cultures, her shapely hindquarters would've been back in Ecu soonest.

He is, luckily, open to discussing and coming to a decision we can both agree on, which is what's happened up to now. But I'll be damned if MIL thinks she's gonna be getting a monthly stipend or something. She's very good at playing the guilt card with him, but I see through that BS.

that's pretty bad. Can he even kick her to the curb? even if he tried? how old is she? no sense of planning?

Like Gump? my SIL is gonna have to support this guy in a decade or so. They have no savings. or, very little.

Fiddeen hunnerd could rent you an extremely nice whole house in Texas, yee-haaaaaa man. This is why I have no respect for Ciudad de Nueva York, no man.

Now, this is where I have to defend NYC....

If you woulda said "you don't like it", thats fine and dandy.....heck I'm not liking it much nowadays....

But this place definitely warrants respect.

There are many aspects of NYC that are stand alone, and unsurpassed. In fact, too much to list....

You'd really have to live here to understand. You'd understand why everything is the way they are.

Also, increased the temp in the house....not going to freeze anymore. It is 68 during the day and that is my last word. HA !

YIKES! We used to keep the house at 80. After two years I've gotten it down to 78 when we're home. Next year it will be 77, and the year after 76. 76 is my favorite indoor temp. I don't like 68 degrees at all.

I should have said with few exceptions. Man doesn't touch my kitchen or my clothes and in return, I don't decorate with pink nor do I touch his power tools.

Was the apartment in Chinatown? You better be careful over there in Brooklyn before it gets even more gentrified and everything gets more expensive.

I have a few high school friends who've remained in the city - and they are all living in Queens/Brooklyn because it is cheaper. My mother grew up in Flushing (or maybe it was Bayside), but its changed a lot since then. I see why people live in the city, my aunt/uncle and cousin still live in Riverdale, there is lots to do - lots of culture (we could be at the Danish Seaman's Church all the time!).

what fuel is your house heated with?

Better question, how do you afford to keep it that warm in MN?

I've been trying to acclimatize myself down to 65, but my mother keeps turning up the thermostat to 72, claiming my daughter will freeze. She's got thick pyjamas and two blankets on....

That Apt was where else? Lower East Side. Around Ludlow....right around where I met Tiff.

The property values in Brooklyn have sky rocketed along with the development of Barclay center. Here in my neck of the woods, there's a large enclave of Scandinavians (Mainly Norwegian), but that population is dwindling, I think it's because of low birth rates, and no new immigrants.

Everything is getting more expensive in Brooklyn. It seems like in the past decade, that this is the boro of choice. I own my house, so I'm not worried. I can always pack up and move to Pound Ridge NY (google that, you might like it).

Queens is the next boom, as Queens is considered the most diversified boro. Lately the Fooks and Russians have been buying up everything in sight, because it's still within reach.

The Bronx, we should just give it to Yonkers and say "here, no backsies"

Staten Island doesn't have enough roads. Driving through there is like driving through Times square on a friday afternoon.

And Manhattan........great place.
