Thomas the Tank Engine books it is then. See if he will pick up any of those. Sounds like a phase. He will lose some interest in when he discovers other things to occupy his mind and time. Just let him overindulge with what he seems obsessed with at the moment. Try laying out other books with a similar interest/theme for him to see, such as The Little Engine That Could.

See above, sigh man. He used to read the letters & words on his wooden blocks, but now he merely wants me to build towers out of them so that he can crash his trains into them. We have The Little Engine That Could, I think. We also have the Chuggington books, in which he showed a brief period of interest. He won't even watch the morning PBS shows any longer: "No -- Thomas!" This obsession is complete, and we're losing valuable impressionable time.

Anyway, I must de-dishwarsher, cat-minister if she wakes up, and prep for bed and go there, zzz man. Not sure that I can (or should) log on to VJ during daylight hours tomorrow, but I'll caucus with Mrs. T-B. over this reading issue and report back, see man.

I will introduce her to all the classics. My all time favorite....is....the grapes of wrath.

Trivia....where did the Joads start their journey from?

Don't make her read that #######! Ugh, I had to read that in high school and hated it. This coming from someone who enjoys almost any kind of literature known to man. BOOORIIINGGG.

I wonder what originated in Intercourse, PA?

Where is Part Many, manyway?

Here! Me! :) Hiding from the cold. And, fun fact - I live on Blue Ball Road. PA has a thing for sexual innuendos.

i don't know why i've put off going to the dentist for so long. i'm always afraid of going, but once i'm done, i laugh at myself for being scared. and yet every time i have to go, it's this feeling of absolute dread.

Hubby is terrified of the dentist in a way he is of nothing else. He held my hand the last time we went and squeezed so hard I swore he'd break fingers. Yet when he cut his leg with a chainsaw, he had no problem pouring salt into it and then getting stitched up sans anesthesia. Huh? He says it's the noise the dentist's tools make, but who knows. Where the heck you from if you learned English from those? I learned to read with One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. I was four and my older brother got so pissed off because he couldn't read.

That's what I need, some kids books in Bisaya and Tagalog. I bet I'd start picking the languages much faster that way.

They do help some, as long as your wife is willing to patiently read them with you. You know what really helps, Dora Explorer in whatever language. She speaks very slowly and clearly.

i had a root canal done on one of my molars (or maybe not a molar...what's the tooth in between a molar and a non-molar?) maybe 2 years ago. it's been fine all that time but last month started twinging every time i ate something hot/warm.

it's like ten times worse now than when it first started, even with sensodyne. i've been looking online and best case scenario, it's another root canal because the dentist might have missed a root, and worse case, i lose my tooth.

I hope you had an endodontist do the root canal the first time, if not, I would definitely see one for the second time. They can re-do the root canal. You can tell they are much more thorough and better than dentists at it. I had a dentist do one once and he didn't do a terribly good job. The rest have all been done by an endodontist and they have much more specialized equipment and will take as long as need be to get the roots out (I've had 4-5 hours done on a tooth before because my roots are all spirally and twisty). I think I've had 5 root canals? Maybe more?

Mini-B. used to beg for us to read to him, especially "Green Eggs & Ham" and "Hop on Pop." However, he now refuses to read, or to put up with our reading to him. Anyone with advice, huh man?

Does TB or Mrs-TB read? Seeing my parents read is what encouraged me. My kids seeing me read is what encouraged them to be readers. Maybe someone convinced him reading wasn't macho? So picking up a book and announcing to no one in particular "I'm gonna read the crapola out of this book" and having Mrs-TB act so impressed would change his attitude? Anyhow who can figure out kids, they're one step away from being as confusing as women.

2. No, that's about as exciting as this corner of PA gets. Snoresville, for sure. Blech.

cary (too lazy to find your post to quote it heh) - snow tubing looks like so much fun. i shall canoodle j into taking me winter next year.

Have him get you good snow pants, best are the type that are like bib overalls. That snow likes to sneak under the coat while going down the hill. My wife's complaint was her hat she bought. It looked cute and fancy, but kept falling over her eyes when we went down the hill, so she switched to using her hood. Not quite as effective as a hat, but she could see.

I can so relate. I absolutely hate going to the dentist. Its so much pain for me no matter what they do. Also found out I have about twice the normal nerves in my teeth. No wonder the dentist hurts so much.

Ugh, jeez, sounds like a nightmare. I need to get my wisdom teeth out, and then I want to get braces to fix my teeth since they're a bit jumbled in the front. I'm a real stickler about clean teeth and dental higiene in general, and after our last visit to the dentist so is hubby. :P

Ugh, just made several payments towards hubby's various medical bills... way to ####### on my good mood.

Grandma-Mini-B. and I are quite anguished at Mini-B.'s refusal to read. Earlier, he was so far ahead of his peers in alphabet and spelling skills; now, we fear that he's falling behind. He shows only mild interest even in his Thomas books (which aren't deep in their content). That tablet computer of his was the death blow, I think, but heaven forbid that we curtail its use. When I was his age, Mama T-B. controlled my behavior and educated me by giving me "any book." I don't know if this is just a phase, but if so, it's a long and intense one, sigh man.

If the tablet computer is now his thing, then get him reading on the tablet. Fewer and fewer people are reading paper books as it is. Get apps that move his reading skills along but are also games. Get Thomas the train books on an ereader app. Turn off the TV, turn off the short attention span apps. A big problem today is not that people can't read, its they can't keep their attention on anything longer than 30 seconds. Note the "you expect me to read all that?" comments when it probably would only take a minute to read it. Can't spare more than 10 seconds on anything is why this country's people have no clue what's really going on any longer.

Ugh, just made several payments towards hubby's various medical bills... way to ####### on my good mood.

I've got a batch I'm paying on now. I really need to change clinics. The company that owns the clinics I'm going to now are real jerks. Takes them a couple months to acknowledge my payments to them, their billing is impossible to figure out, and they don't start billing until a couple months afterwards, then they get all pissy when you start making payments to them. Hey if they'd just acknowledge the payments faster than 60 days, they might not need to be so pissy about it. They had an outfit they hired to collect payments that got into big trouble to. They were actually harassing patients in hospitals over their bills and threatening to throw them out or withhold treatment. I'm not sure they're not using near as bad an outfit now to do their billing.

Richard Long? Is Richard Long here? Last call for ####### Long. laughing.gif

A buddy of mine worked in a bicycle shop when we were kids. One time a guy comes in to drop off his bike for repair. My buddy is taking down his information, first is his name, so the guy says "#######" and pauses for a bit, this was the seventies and no one went by Richard back then BTW, and then says "last name is Hickey". The two of us are struggling to keep straight faces. My buddy has to finish writing up the repair order of course, but I couldn't take it. I walked into the back room and out the back door and just totally lost it. A few minutes later, so did my buddy. Can you imagine going around with a name like that? I think we were laughing pretty much the rest of the day over that one.

That's me content.gif

Oh man I have a lot to do today.....
