Hey guys .. I need some help.. Me and my fiancé did a ( traditional marriage ) in July 2013. But we did not register anything or get a marriage certificate. And I included the the traditional marriage pictures as ongoing relationship (evidence).... Now I am worried that they may deny us a k1 visa .. !!!!Saying that we are married aready !! !!..I've read some posts about traditional marriages and some don't look good!!!. But traditional marriage in Uganda is not legal according to marriage law in Uganda.... I mean we had no any other option rather than the k1 visa.. What should we do? Any one with the same or similar situation??

Be courageous and face the interview without fear.Once you can convince the CO the traditional wedding was just a formal party to bring both families together and make you engagement official, he will let you be.If you let the CO knows that even you sees it a real marriage, then you may have some difficulties. In some countries, traditional marriage is considered a legal marriage so if it is not considered legal in your county and you can convince the CO in Uganda that you did it just for formality, you will be fine.I know people from Cameroon my country who have succeeded the interview for K1 even though the CO knows they are married traditionally Good Luck.

don't cancel your appointment coz those guys know about our traditional ceremony... they actually asked me during my interview why me and my fiance did have one then i told them it isnt a must... its something which must be agreed between the two.. my case was more complicated, a k1 which stayed pending till it expired, 3 student visa denials and then age difference but i managed to make it... what they want is to prove boniface relationship.. ask your fiance to be confident, listen carefully and look into the CO"s eyes while answering the questions coz that's a sign of telling the truth.. otherwise Nairobi embassy is good and the people are friendly, also that lady who is there now is good so you dont have to worry my dear all will be well in God"s name!!!!!!

This person had a traditional marriage and was denied an I-130 because of it, so applied for the K-1 and was completely upfront about the 'marriage'. I thought it sounded like a bad idea to list yourself as married and talk about being married for the K-1 visa application, but they were approved > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/444512-help-with-my-letter-to-co-for-k1-visa/
