I've neither underestimated nor forgotten the importance of emotional support. However, you have in fact misrepresented the intention of my posts. Have you considered that there are many petitioners who are poor? What if they don't have the money to travel? Will you say that they have somehow underestimated their responsibility? All anyone can do is the best they can with what they have available.

An international relationship is costly. Engaging the federal government in getting such foreign relationship to come over to the US is even costlier.

Listen, I know things are hard. I pay child support on 4 kids yet when I proposed to my Wife I knew the financial implications involved and I bulked up for it.

I went with my husband, but the policy in Stockholm is that the spouse can not be involved in the actual interview. I could listen to the whole thing though!

You find the money to attend!!!!! I'm poor but I made sure I was at my husband's interview because I love him and wanted to do everything to support him. And in fact it turns out it made all the difference in our case.

I'm not too sure that us folks here on the shoreline's version of poor and everyone else's really lines up.

Whatever I'm just trying to tell people that for us it made all the difference. It was not required that I be there but they asked for me and had I not been there my husband would not be coming here this week.

Laughable indeed. People have been denied the chance to even present the evidence they have brought with them. Many denials are stated to be due to lack of established relationship. That is the go-to reasoning for a CO intent on denying for whatever reason they feel like denying for. They can, and do question as to whether the USC petitioner is present, even when they are not allowed to attend the interview. They can, and do deny/withhold visas and ask that they return for another interview, this time bringing the petitioner with them.

I had good reasons for not going to Juarez with my husband and attending his K-1 interview. We had been together for many years, had front-loaded the petition with evidence and he took plenty more with him to the interview. My husband is fluent in both Spanish and English and can communicate very well in either. According to CNTrav, there should have been no questioning at all about my lack of presence since he is articulate and we had plenty of evidence. I wonder why then the CO grilled my husband about where I was and why was I not there. I wonder why he persisted in that line of questioning and wanted to know when I would be able to attend and be present with him in Juarez then. He also refused to look at the notarized letter I sent explaining my absence. We are lucky and grateful that he decided to end that line of questioning and go ahead and grant the visa. The CO could have very well denied him and ask him to return for a second interview and demand I be present at that one. It happened to a couple going through Juarez just not too long ago actually. CNTrav is completely incorrect that this cannot and does not happen. Those wide-sweeping, generalized statements of absolute assurance can end up leaving folks that follow it quite disappointed, if it turns out things don't end up with an easy, happy outcome as professed. Anyone that can attend, should. Even if their consulate does not allow the USC petitioner to enter and actually attend the interview. Even if it is not typical for a CO to deny for that reason at your particular consulate.The OP's post was informative and dead on.

Ok i love you Jawaree but I have to disagree here. My husband wasn't lying about anything he simply didn't remember the date of my last visit. Had I hadn't been there to clarify things our visa would not have been issued.

in Jamaica, but if spouse is in the area the CO may ask that

they come in (hopefully it does not lead to a stoke situation)

Just know what is allowed in your country, and do all you can to support your loved one, if is allowed, required, or otherwise, support your loved one at the interview, in person, on in spirit!

I m curious to know abt india, if they require petitioners presence for interview.

I don't think Mumbai consulate will let the petitioner inside, though i could be wrong. I am actually thinking of going to the consulate with my wife for the interview. This thread did give me some food for thought about being with my wife during the interview (Even if they don't let me in).

Excellent advice. I know in Morocco that several people who have posted about the interview have stated that they ask where the spouse is and if they are nearby - say in the cafe across the street- they get called into the interview.
