I like how the NRA apparently seems to think that people with mental health issues should simply be locked up and committed. There's no talk of therapy, no talk of treatment, nothing. Just lock up the "homicidal maniacs" and be done with it!

They also apparently have no problem with how easy it is for these people to gain access to a wide variety of weapons.

the student who opened fire last week at a Colorado high school, leaving one girl in a coma before taking his own life, was angry after losing his coveted spot on the debate team and an avid reader of a notorious bomb-making bible, according to a classmate.

Joe Redmond, who at one time was a co-captain on the team with the suspected gunman, Karl Pierson, said that Pierson had been reading “The Anarchist Cookbook,” a 1971 book that includes bomb-making instructions.

Pierson, a senior, had been reading the book since his sophomore year and sharing it with others, Redmond said.

Redmond said that the target of Pierson’s anger was Tracy Murphy, a school librarian and the debate coach. He said that Pierson and Murphy “did not get along, and whatever it was escalated to a death threat.”

Pierson told Redmond that he still hated the teacher, and said, “Apparently you get suspended for threatening to kill a teacher.” He said Pierson went cold at that point, looked at Redmond, and then looked at the ground.

You feel good liberals have a student who SAID he would kill the teacher ... give him a time out. Everything is normal. Hand guns kill more people in the US than bombs. Don't be glib about this. Its not all black and white. What we want is to REDUCE the number of gun deaths. Its a gradual approach. I know you have a hard time with this concept.

I stopped reading right here because no, I have never once said anything remotely like "get rid of all the guns"..

I know that your paranoia makes it so that's what you hear/read when someone talks about gun control, but "get rid of all the guns" is not what most people are saying.

I don't know what feel good liberal you think gave him a time out but let's assume that some feel good liberal actually did that as you claim. It would sure beat allowing him to walk into the nearest gun store to purchase a firearm and ammo which is what you are advocating for and what he actually did. A time out doesn't get anyone killed. A firearm, on the other hand, most certainly does.

I'm not really seeing an answer with regards to gun laws either from this thread. Most of the latest shootings occurred with a legally purchased firearm and a background check. The last couple used shotguns which are legal in most western countries.

He was 18 ... Why was he still at this school when he threatened to kill a teacher. Why did they just give him a suspended sentence..... A big boys time out,,, go sit in the corner. The school administration should have protected the school more... You cannot hurt this poor child's feelings?
