I need help..again. :/ im trying to figure out this whole police clearance thing from the Netherlands since i lived there for a year before. According to their website, i need to mail them my application form, letter from US consulate, copy of passport info, and proof of payment. My problem is the application form. The website is in dutch (there are some parts that can be translated in english) but the links for the application forms are in dutch so i dont know which is the correct for . Also, all the forms are in dutch. No english version. How am i supposed to fill em out.. Theyre like 6 pages total.. :(

Another thing that confuses me is whether i should be the one to apply for the COVOG, or the US consulate. I read from previous vj threads about dutch police certs. that it was the US consulate that requested for them since The Netherlands doesnt accept personal application from the visa applicant. So i am really confused now which is which.

Anyone has any idea or some info about this? Id really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Hey, I'll try to help you on this subject even though I'm not familiar with your exact situation.

I just went through the process of getting a K-1 visa, and I'm from the Netherlands. I also had to get a police report (police clearance). I believe it's the same form that you need to file, we call it Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag (VOG), and in the case of a visa application, you can apply for it yourself with a letter from the US consulate. The application form is very long, but you don't have to fill in a lot of things. They devided it up in different sections, and you only need to fill in the section that's applicable to you. For instance, you can apply for the VOG if you are going to work with children, or if you have a lot of financial responsibility. But you're filing for a Visa application so you don't have to fill in a lot (I believe you only have to check a box that says so).

I know it's confusing if it's just in dutch, and from what I understand the only thing I can do to help is offer you my translation services! My English is pretty good and my first language is Dutch. I don't know if this website lets you send private messages, but if it does, send me one and I'll try to remember to check it. You can ask me to translate things if needed.

I don't know if you are in the netherlands right now, but if you are, you could try to go to the place that issue's these sorts of forms (every 'gemeente', or county, has one) and ask them to translate it for you. They're usually very helpful with this sort of stuff. I'm not too sure how to help you otherwise!

Thank you soooo much for the info! So to end my confusion, it is I who should apply for it and not the US consulate, right? Okies! :)

Regarding the forms, which one did you download and submit? The 'Aanvraagformulier VOG NP' or 'Aanvraagformulier VOG RP'? In my understanding, I should only answer whats applicable to me, and leave the rest blank, correct? I will try to understand the forms and if i need more help i will shoot you a private message. Dank u wel! :)

Btw, yep your english is really good! ? :)

Yes it is you who applies for it. I believe requesting a VOG for Visa purposes is the only instance you are supposed to apply for it yourself.

You're going to need to fill in the 'VOG NP' which stands for Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag Natuurlijke Personen. I'll try to guide you through the form. (https://www.justis.nl/Images/aanvraagformulier-vog-np-(01122013)_tcm123-418661.pdf)

1.1 -> Fill in your personal information (if you need help with what to fill in where say so, I'm going to assume you know a little dutch for now)

1.2 -> Sign the form

2.1 -> Fill in your own name

2.2 -> Check 'overig'

2.3 -> Check '06 Visum en Emigratie'

2.4 -> Skip this part

2.5 -> Check 'nee'

2.6 -> Sign with your name

3 -> Will be filled in by the gemeente (county) you're registering it.

I'm not sure where you are right now, I'm assuming you are in the Netherlands. If this is the case, you're supposed to bring a letter from the US consulate website. I looked it up for you, this is the page you're supposed to print and bring (http://photos.state.gov/libraries/netherlands/19452/public/IVNIVVOGAPPSUPP.pdf). When you print out your form and your letter, you're supposed to bring both with your passport. And about 30 euro's to pay for the fee's. I believe you'll get your VOG in the mail within 2 weeks.

I hope this was helpful!

Cool i will go over those parts tonight! Thanks!

Im already back in the Philippines. I have here the letter from the US consulate, and also a photocopy of my passport bio page. I still need to pay through the bank so i can attach the proof of payment to the application form before i mail everything out.

Another question regarding the app form, i was still single and was (obviously) using my maiden name when i was in Amsterdam. And the NVC instruction says that i should include all names used when residing in that place.. So is there a part in the form where i can write my maiden name?

At section 1.1 it says to pick between male and female. And behind female it says 'vrouw (indien gehuwd, dient u uw meisjesnaam te vermelden)' which means 'when married, you're required to also mention your maiden name'. So you're probably safe when filling it your current name first, and your maide name behind it.

I'm not familiar with the process of filing for a VOG from outside the Netherlands, but I can imagine there is a way. I only know how to apply for one while being present. If it tells you to send it in through mail it seems to make sense though! I can't help you with processing times for that.

Oh ok, great! Another problem solved. :)

There's a part that says for those foreign nationals not residing in the netherlands, they should apply directly to covog..? So i think thats what i will be doing. It would probly take longer compared to applying personally there because of the mailing part.

One last question lol.. When you got the certificate from them is it in dutch, or english? Do u need to translate it before sending to NVC or embassy?

The version I got was in Dutch, and it worked. I can't recall if they send in an English version too, but seeing as you specifically apply for it with the intention of getting a Visa, I think the version you'll get will suffice.

I'm not familiar with 'covog'! But if that's what it said, it sounds like that's the way to do it.

The VOG that my husband got was also in Dutch: However, on the bottom of the letter on the front page it states the following:

The State Secretary of Security and Justice has conducted an investigation into the conduct of the person named in this Certificate and declares that, in view of the risk to society in relation to the purpose for which the certificate has been requested and considering the interests of the person concerned, the investigation has not resulted in any objections to this person in connection with the specific profile mentioned above or the job features indicated on the reverse of this Certificate. The State Secretary is therefore hereby pleased to issue this Certificate of Conduct, pursuant to section 28 of the Dutch Judicial Data and Criminal Records Act.

And the back is in both Dutch and English. So you probably will not need a translation. :)
