Hey guys so visa was printed yesterday Yay!!!!!! Now I need to know if I can pay 165 dollar green card fee the same day as hubby's flight before he lands or does it take a while for payment to be processed? Plus he won't have any printed confirmation with him at POE is that going to be a problem?? How will the officer know that payment has been processed and that we've registered via USCIS ELIS? He is going to leave Jamaica same day that he picks up visa so we won't be able to print anything out.

Thanks much,

BethAnn

That fee can be paid before he leaves or after he arrives. He won't need a printed confirmation and all CBP is likely to do in regards to this fee is simply remind him about it.

Excellent news.

We paid our fee stateside and we've received our green card so proff that you don't have to pay abroad before entrance. All he really needs is the DO NOT OPEN envelope and his passport. They will place a stamp in the paoport at POE which will serve as temporary "green card" for a year I think.

you remind me so much of myself....I worry about every little detail and it's understandable because we don't want to take unnecessary chances that delay our process....well I don't know how the green card fee thing works but if it makes you feel any better why don't you pay the fee and try to e-mail or fax him a copy of the receipt just to be on the safe side.

A stamp in of itself will not act as a temporary green card because the stamp is only a standard entry stamp. It is a combination of the visa itself and that entry stamp placed on the page next to the visa that acts as the temporary green card.

Yes he will be let through. The fee is merely to pay for the green card production. You have up to the time the temporary green card expires to pay the fee.

Hi BethAnn...It will be best if you make the payment for the green card before he leaves Jamaica and so it will take him a month to get his green card, you can also pay for it when he gets here but you will have to wait for a longer period to get the green card, he does not need to show the receipt at the port of entry,.My hubby said he showed them the receipt upon arrival and they did not need it...after entering the country, he should wait for two weeks then go apply for his social security number...my hubby went after a week but the office said he had to wait for two weeks...Good luck and God bless you both.

you really don't have to wait any longer to get the card. If you pay it before you leave, you can expect the card to arrive 1-3 months after you POE. If you pay after you arrive, you can expect the card to arrive 1-3 months after payment date. After about a month if you still have not paid the fee the USCIS will mail you a notice to pay it.

As the endorsed visa in the passport acts as a temporary green card for 1 year from POE, that IS the beneficiary's green card until they receive the "card" from the USCIS. In anything the beneficiary needs to provide their green card for, this will do it.

Thanks for the info guys!

You are pursuing a K-1 visa. The person asking this questions has a CR-1 visa. This topic is about the Immigrant Fee for someone entering the US with an immigrant visa. The fee must be paid before receiving the green card. A K-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa and no green card is given upon arrival to the US. Someone entering with a K-1 does not pay the Immigrant Fee > http://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee

Hi BethAnn, follow the policy of USCIS, they stated that you should pay for the green card before the person migrate, just do it and get it right the first time, you will definetely get it before the one that apply here after entry...God bless u..

BethAnn,

No need to pay the fee ahead of time. My spouse arrived yesterday 12/15, and he had no problems and I did not pay the fee yet. However, if you feel comfortable paying the fee ahead of time, then by all means do that. Each POE is different. My spouse arrived in Ft. Lauderdale and it was smooth sailing, he said that they did not ask a thing. He did mention that his package was very thick and the officer wanted to know why all the unnecessary paperwork. Besides that all went well
