Yes, but often the shooter's target is a school staff member or fellow student. It follows that the attack would likely take place in a school, irrespective of the gun free zone status.

New information is that this man was "loaded for bear" but the presence of a good guy with a gun, a deputy on the school grounds, arrived and the gunman killed himself.

I suppose it means they have SOME merit, but I am not on board to surrender freedom to kick out idiots from office. Better to protect ourselves from their actions and let them be.

Hard to say. He walked into the school with the shotgun in full view and asked for the target by name. When he couldn't get to that teacher, he threw one of the molotov cocktails, shot at the nearest bystanders and then killed himself. The elapsed time from entry to shooters death was less than 2 minutes.

The deputy on school grounds was not armed. Hard to say what influence it had on the shooter kiling himself, but it had nothing to do with a good guy arriving with a gun. I doubt the shooter intended to walk out of there.

No, you are changing your arguent. You said armed guards would stop these events from happening. They wont!!! The Arapahoe shooter didn't plan on walking out of there. Just like the shooters at Columbine.

At my daughters middle school, there is an armed, trained law enforcement officer. Great guy and I fully support the tax dollars that pay for him being there. (not everyone does). But it's naive to think that will stop these situations from happening. Hopefully it will mitigate them when they occur.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A teenager who wounded a fellow student before killing himself at a suburban Denver high school entered the building with a shotgun, a machete, three Molotov cocktails and ammunition strapped to his body, likely intending to track down a librarian who had disciplined him, authorities said Saturday.

After firing a round down a hallway, Karl Pierson, 18, shot a fellow student who just happened to be sitting nearby with a friend as he headed toward the library. Claire Davis, 17, was shot in the head at point-blank range and remained hospitalized Saturday in critical condition.

Pierson set off one of the devices but killed himself just 1 minute and 20 seconds after entering the building because he knew a sheriff’s deputy assigned to the school was closing in, Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said at a news conference.

Pierson’s original target was believed to be a librarian who coached the school’s speech and debate team. The librarian, whose name was not released, had disciplined the teen in September for reasons that haven’t been disclosed.

The librarian was able to escape the school unharmed, Robinson said.

The armed guard at Columbine didn't stop that massacre either. Those guys were well prepared for the armed guards arival. The armed guard at Columbine was lucky not to have been a victim. And he is a strong advocate of having an armed law enforcement presence in schools. Not armed teachers or security guards.
