Yes, I saw that link, and that is why I asked for a link to the federal law or a document on the SSA website. IMHO this is not a requirement by the SSA, but someone on a website like VJ stating that the SSA requires a new citizen to report a change in their status. Most people do comply as they want their records to be as up-to-date as possible, but is it really REQUIRED.

All I know is that's a US federal government site specifically designed to give information to newly-naturalised citizens. I would tend to think it has accurate information, unless it can be proven to the contrary.

Are you sure about it being a Federal website? This website states in the "ABOUT US" section:

So that is why I am questioning the "required" part of your statement. I realize that going to the SSA and reporting you now are a USC only takes a few hours and is an easy thing to do, but I do not want to tell people that it is required when it is only suggested and I also do not want to say it is suggested when it may in fact be required.

Hm, it seems you are quite correct. That's what I get for not paying attention more, it did a good job of looking like a proper government site.
